The RECOGNISE movement has gained momentum since the election campaign began and has become a highly debated topic.
Ms Middleton, CEO of the Narromine LALC wants to see a change in the issue.
“The Australian Government needs to move beyond mere symbolic recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Australian Constitution,” she said.
“Acknowledging our people in the nation’s Constitution is the right thing to do.”
Ms Middleton said there are a variety of ways to address the issue of recognition.
”Whatever model is pursued, Wiradjuri people believe that a lasting agreement needs to be reached to acknowledge and talk about what’s happened in the past and confirm our place as respected and valued custodians of the land,” she said.
