Well things didn’t go according to the script this week, with the programmed Open Singles Final between Aaron Hutchison and Robbie Stanford having to be put on hold due to an illness in Aaron’s Family. Hopefully it will be a case of take two this coming Saturday afternoon, when the boys will play this decider.

Things were a little better in the B-grade singles where we managed to play 4 of the 6 scheduled games, the other 2 unfortunately resulted in forfeits.
The four games that were played, however resulted in the usual interesting results.
Paul Hilder defeated Don Gibson 31/21 in what most pundits would have down as an upset, given the experience Don has obtained the last few years.
In the second match David Price got over the line reasonably comfortably over Mick Wright, but it certainly wasn’t one way traffic with Mr “Wong” playing some good bowls in the middle to latter stages of the game, that kept “Pricey” honest, as the final score line of 31/20 after some 31 ends would suggest.
The third match saw Trent Jacobson maintain his recent good form to defeat Jimmy Daley 31/16 and if Trent can continue in the same vein for the rest of this event will be hard to beat.
The final match on Saturday between Geoff Bohm and Geoff Anderson resulted in a return to form by Geoff Bohm who won comfortably 31/14, and he too must be considered a chance in this event given he has in the past made it to the last 4 each time he has contested this event.
So this Saturday sees the quarterfinals of this event and 4 interesting matches have been set down for play. They are as follows: Game 1: Geoff Bohm versus “Rabz” Macqueen: Game 2: Paul Hilder Versus Geoff Cape: Game 3: Ben Clark Versus Alex Sambrook: Game 4: David Price Versus Trent Jacobson:
SOCIAL BOWLS
Sunday morning 14 eager beavers turned up for the chook run. A couple of pairs games and a triples confrontation was programmed by the on duty bowls directors.
Results: Rink 9 Clifton Harris, Bob Ashdown & Danny Carnevale scored 12 points in their solid 18/12 win over Peter Kelly, Robert Bateman & Steve Buttsworth. Rink 10 it was Bob Davis & Robbie Stanford who managed to also score 12 points in a hard earned 24/14 win over Bill Wilkie & Arnold Gillespie.
In the last match on rink 11 Aaron Clark & Don Sullivan just snuck over the line, again courtesy of a big finish to score 11 points in their 14/9 win over Ben Clark & Peter Cross. So 3 interesting clashes and despite the cold conditions some pretty good bowls were played. With the Judge back in his chambers, it was left up to Danny to determine the day’s standings. In first spot were the duo of Bob & Robbie, whilst the winning trio of Clifton, Bob & Danny ran a gallant second: Not too sure of the status of the jackpot, so don’t know if it was won or not.
UPCOMING EVENTS
It is hoped that over the course of the next few months we will be having a few events at the Narromine Bowling Club including the annual “GUB” Thorne Memorial Day, The time honoured “FINO” Day and the State Rookies pairs and Singles events: The Flyers, Nomination sheets for all these events should be posted on the Club notice board sometime in July and I encourage all eligible members, particularly those Rookies to enter.
