SATURDAY
From the candidates themselves
Here’s what Nationals candidate Mark Coulton had to say about today.
Green’s candidate Matt Parmeter said he had lots of support throughout the campaign.
Election volunteers
We asked some of the volunteers why they gave their time for the campaign, and why they chose the party they did.
Gail Dawes: I just feel we should all do our little bit and this is my little bit. I’ve grown up in an absolute Labor family.
Monty Seton: The constitution is based on Christian principals and that needs to be upheld.
Greg Matthews: Because of all the people who did it for me all those years ago. I’m conservative and I’m not that keen on any of the others.
Sausage Sizzle
Where is the best sausage sizzle in the electorate? Dubbo South Public School were definitely popular with their snags.
Parkes votes in Moree
IT is said there is no such thing as a safe seat, although if there was it would be Parkes.
Most of the chatter in the line to vote in Moree was in reference to the nail biting contest in next door New England.
One 52 year-old farmer from Pallamallawa said he is voting for Mark Coulton because”he has been doing a good job and you don't mess with what works”.
He also conceded that the AEC knew where he lived and as such he had to vote.
Candidate for the Christian Democratic Party Glen Ryan was manning a polling booth, while his wife was at the Masonic Centre doing the same.
Some voters were still a little confused as to who they were voting for, Adam Marshall considered a popular option.
The Rise Up Australia party had vocal volunteers renouncing same sex marriage and the dissolution of Australian values.
The President of the Moree Pistol Club was out volunteering for the Shooters, Fisher and Farmers Party keen to “protect her sport”.
Many of the gentlemen handing out how to vote cards for the Nationals had been a member for the party for 50 years or more.
Voting also occurred in each of the villages today.
Today marks the end of an exhaustive eight week campaign, counting of votes will begin at 6pm tonight.
Candidates voting
The candidates were scattered throughout the Parkes electorate for election day.
