A wash-out, a bye and an opponent forfeiting left Bulldogs without much match-time of late but the team played like a squad with plenty of recent experience under their belts.
Winger Bart Bogart picked up a hat trick in the emphatic Bulldogs victory.
“It was a very convincing win, a good performance considering the lack of games we’ve had," Bulldogs co-coach Brian Roberson said.
“We still trained really well and knew our structures were there so we had a good level of confidence going into the game. From the get-go our control of the game was very good.”
Bulldogs raced away to an early 15-0 lead before an unconverted try for the Wombats allowed the hosts to stay in touch.
The visitors extended their lead to 25-5 shortly after the break but once again a try for Mudgee ensured the Bulldogs would have to maintain their pressure.
That’s exactly what they did in a dominant end to the game as a clinical blue and gold attack found points with ease.
“The last 20 minutes of the second half was dominant from us,” Roberson said.
“It was a great display from Bart Bogart as well with his three tries.”
It’s the second time Bulldogs have beaten the Wombats this season after their 23-19 win in April.
The win keeps Bulldogs a point away from fifth place.
