Despite a relatively dry day predicted on Saturday, the rain due to fall this week could make setting up for the show impossible and cause enormous damage to the Showgrounds.
President, Jodi Browning, said as of Tuesday the Show would go ahead, but they wouldn’t know for sure until later in the week.
“We don’t know, there’s 105 mms forecast for this week and that’s on top of the 500mms we’ve already had this year,” she said.
“We’ll have monitor and see. But the bulk of the rain isn’t coming until Friday and it doesn’t take much to make the ground wet at the moment."
Ms Browning said the Show Committee decided it was all or nothing this year, so the whole event will either be washed out or not, depending on the downfall.
“If we decide to cancel, we cancel everything. We can’t ruin the Showgrounds,” she said.
The trucks holding the rides have started to make their way over to Narromine, Ms Browning said but she is concerned the rides could get bogged and chop up the grounds
“We can’t have them here, getting bogged and digging up the ground,” she said.
At this stage the Show committee are waiting to see how much rain falls around the Showground and will make a call about the event later in the week.
If we decide to cancel, we cancel everything. We can't half do it and we can't ruin the Showgrounds.
- Jodi Browning, president
Should the Show be cancelled it won’t be rescheduled for this year.
“If it’s cancelled, it’s cancelled for the year, we can’t fit in with the Showman’s Guild to reschedule,” Ms Browning said.
According to Weatherzone.com.au rain is forecast to start on Wednesday.
There’s a 90 per cent chance of five to 10mms on Wednesday, a 90 per cent chance 20 to 40mms on Thursday and a 90 per cent chance of 20 to 40 mms on Friday. Temperatures will range between 10 and 19 degrees.
Possible showers are scheduled on Saturday with a 70 per cent chance of less than one millimetre. It’s expected to reach 17 degrees.
Ms Browning said it would have been nice to have a week of weather like last week.
“We had such beautiful weather last weekend,” she said.
