Sick of their road, the Jamea Road, being ignored or put in the too hard basket, the Dandaloo based family created a video to demonstrate just how tough life is for them when they’re flooded in.
With the ongoing rain, the Broughton’s have been unable to get anything in or out of their property halting farming operations, stopping the children from going to school and making simple trips into town difficult.
Since the video was shown to the Narromine Councillors last Wednesday, the video has gone viral around the world and the farming family are shocked at how far their video has travelled.
The Broughtons created a video to show council the impact the poor condition of their road is having on their farming family.
Kate Broughton, video creator said it she hopes the movie will inspire other farming families in similar situations to make a stand about their road conditions.
“It was originally only meant for council and our family and friends. We have no experience in making videos,” she said.
Since the video went live on the Narromine News Facebook page on Thursday it has had over 187,000 views, reached 568,470 people, been shared almost 4000 times and had many sympathizers.
Mrs Broughton said she was pleased she attended the council meeting and the family hopes to help council get the funding for the $500,000 project on the Jamea Road.
“The road is below standard and everyone at council agrees. The purpose was to show frustrations on a daily basis,” she said.
“I’m shocked the insurance from the natural disaster funding can only get the road back to pre-flood condition.”
At the council meeting, the Broughton’s neighbours the Montgomery's expressed similar concerns for their road.
“I completely understand it is extreme circumstances this year with the rain events but Jamea Road is shocking without extreme circumstances,” Sally Montgomery wrote.
“Our business is suffering and has had major losses the same as Broughton. What has happened to Narromine Shire Council that we have been left like this?”
Mayor Craig Davies said council needs to look for for the funding for the road.
“All attempts are being made to get the funding,” he said at the meeting.
