So who cares who won the American election? This is Australia and it doesn’t affect us at all! Or does it? For one, the United States is considered to be one of the leaders (or The Leader) of the Free World. The other of course is that some of the Donald’s campaign policies would create seismic waves on the global market that would most definitely affect us all. Even if we were another hermit kingdom (see North Korea), we now live in an age where we are citizens of a global village where when China sneezes, Australia catches a cold. In any case, how on earth did the Orange One win? Some insights from political analysts are fascinating. For one, this election has revealed deep divides amongst many social groups. There are not just divisions between the various economic classes, racial groups and genders but within them as well. One would have thought after all the negative statements Trump made concerning women, none of them would have voted for him, but many did. Here’s an interesting perspective

- 1. Younger people tend to vote more to the left, older people tend to vote more to the right.
- 2. Older people are more likely to actually cast a vote than younger people.
- 3. People's voting patterns shift to the right as they age.
- 4. People are living longer and longer.
- 5. People are having fewer and fewer children.
For Bible believers, it is helpful to remember that regardless of what happens, whether it be globally, nationally, locally or even in our own individual lives, Jesus is still king. He still rules and (as the church has been saying for the last 2000 years or so) he is coming back soon!
