The majority of our VRA Rescue Squads are located in regional NSW. Our organisation runs on the back volunteers.
The NSW VRA is committed to building resilience to general land search and rescue and to promote the role the service plays in the community.
Education, community awareness, building resilience through developing people’s capacity to respond to events and engaging with communities in NSW are important activities of the NSW VRA within the local community’s.
Our volunteer’s mission is to lead the communities to lend a helping hand anywhere anytime in any emergencies. As a NSW VRA volunteer, you will learn the skills to help your local community.
The NSW VRA attend approximately 10,000 incidents per year, these include motor vehicle accidents, searches, body recoveries, inland water searches and recovery, vertical rescues, animal rescues, lighting of crime scenes and emergency lighting, swift water rescue, industrial and domestic rescue, alpine and snow rescue, cave rescue, diving rescue, first aid at sporting events, traffic control for community events just to name a few.
Over and above this we have to raise funds to run our squads plus complete a training program to maintain and keep our accreditation.
The NSW VRA is made up of a wide diversity of people who regularly commit their time and energy volunteering to assist their communities and those traveling in times of emergencies.
NSW VRA volunteers are mostly seen by the public in their operational roles –- a helping hand anywhere, anytime.
The principle objectives of the NSW VRA are defined as being
1 The protection, preservation and saving of life and property
2 The establishment and training for the purpose of effecting all forms of rescue operations
3 To coordinate with and assist any and all commonwealth and state statutory emergency services including the NSW Natural Disaster Organisations, State Police, NSW Ambulance, NSW Rural Fire, Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW State Emergency Service.
