With the end of the year nearly upon us it is good to be able to look back and reflect on what has happened and how we have handled situations. From my perspective I am really honoured to be the Mayor of the Narromine Shire. It is still sinking in. However it is a role that few people have the privilege of filling. I will always be mindful of this privilege and treat this position with the respect it deserves.

To have the honour of being able to make decisions that impact so significantly on my neighbours and friends brings with it responsibilities that I had not given too much thought to previously. That has all changed and the pleasure I get from the role is immeasurable.
As Gretchen Armitage , our Community Strategic Plan co-ordinator has suggested, this shire is only limited by our imaginations. I sincerely hope that everyone had the opportunity to have input in to how best to take our shire forward. We, as a council, have had many discussions on initiatives that will improve the outlook for all residents and the new year will see the introduction of some very exciting programs covering our road network, youth crime and disadvantage, the Levee bank and a number of the initiatives that will come out of the Strategic Plan. The levee bank has held back development and progress for far too long and with the Peer review currently underway it is the resolve of council to ensure the quickest resolution to this saga. More information in relation to practical solutions is coming out as we go forward with this issue and they will be presented to the Peer reviewer when they visit the shire.
With a resolution to this vexing problem comes the possibility for much more targeted development and our open weekend in early May is hopefully the start of period of growth and job creation for the shire. The aerodrome is nearing the stage when development will be able to start out there and interest is being shown in aviation matters from a diverse range of groups. On January 25 we have an advance party of Chinese aviators looking for tuition in gliding and with the potential of a further 200 students the outlook for the shire is looking very bright. This delegation is from Gao Tai in North Western China and they wish to create the gliding capital of China in their region. They are also showing an interest in Agricultural investment.
I can see an incredible future for our shire and our residents. We need the co-operation and interaction of all our people and we really can make our shire a leader in the region. Finally, I wish to thank all the staff of council for their loyalty, dedication and determination to make this shire a beacon. Thanks also to my fellow councillors for their loyalty and vision in addressing the issues before them and striving for the best possible outcomes. I wish all my fellow citizens of the Shire a safe, happy and family filled Xmas.
