The blaze caused extensive damage to the Temoin Street property in the early hours of Monday morning.
No one was injured but firefighters were at the scene for about three hours.
Inspector Dan Skelly from Orana Local Area Command said the owners were away on holidays and it was fortunate no one was home.
“It’s a terrible thing to occur, but there were no injuries or loss of life, that’s the main thing,” he said.
Police were awaiting the results from fire investigators about the cause but did not believe there were any suspicious circumstances, he said.
Narromine Fire Station acting captain Peter Treseder said the call-out came about 2.25am and when they arrived the house was fully engulfed.
The local Fire & Rescue NSW crew had help from the Trangie brigade and NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS).
Four appliances, including one truck from Narromine, one from Trangie and two from the RFS, attended.
Dubbo Fire Station also received thanks for its part in the effort.
On Tuesday Mr Treseder reflected on the fire.
“It’s disappointing for the family but we were pleased no one was inside,” he said.
