Residents are invited to attend the Ordinary Meetings of Council which are held on the second Wednesday of the month, commencing at 4.30pm in the Council Chambers, 124 Dandaloo Street, Narromine.
Prior to the February meeting, Councillors participated in a two hour Asset Management Training session, facilitated through OROC (the Orana Regional Organisation of Councils), designed to educate and inform elected representatives on the strategic management of local government assets in line with NSW Office of Local Government guidelines.
This applies to all assets and infrastructure including parks, recreation areas, buildings and roads.
Preparations are under way for the Narromine Shire “Open for Business” event on May 4 and 5.
This is an initiative of Council and the Economic Development Group to showcase the Shire and the opportunities for businesses and individuals to value add to existing operations, as well as encourage new operators to consider Narromine Shire as the location for their enterprise.
Council has also been successful in obtaining $25,000 from the Murray Darling Basin Energise Enterprise Fund to undertake the development of a shire-wide economic development strategy.
The development of the strategy will be commenced later this month to formulate objectives to strengthen the economic base of the Shire.
Businesses will be invited to participate in workshops and individual sessions.
The Trangie sporting community, assisted by council, has applied for a Sport & Infrastructure Grant from NSW Liquor & Gaming to redevelop the Trangie sporting facilities to a quality all weather sporting facility.
The total cost of the project, which includes upgrading the playing surface, improving drainage and lighting, and the installation of outdoor exercise equipment adjacent to the complex, is in excess of $850,000.
Council has previously committed $100,000, and the Trangie community have promised $12,000 cash and $50,000 in-kind support to complete the project.
Provided the application for grant funding is successful, this will deliver a top class sporting precinct for the community and enable more district and regional sporting events to be held locally.
Citizens of the year
Worthy winners
Australia Day was again a wonderful success and the Citizens of the year, Chris Barnett in Narromine and Terri Milgate in Trangie were most worthy winners.
We also had such wonderful ambassadors to share some time with. I sincerely congratulate all the winners.
