Another Interesting week for our troops, with some good results in the District Triples and better fields for social bowls with the slightly cooler weather.
Firstly to the District Triples where after 4 rounds of competition over the weekend the Narromine Trio of Aaron Clark, Sam Crook and Robbie Stanford have made it through to the penultimate match in this event.
The boys played some outstanding bowls to defeat all comers including a very strong West Dubbo Team in their semi-final match Sunday afternoon.
So this Saturday Robbie and Co will play Michael Rea’s Team from Dubbo Railway, with the winner advancing to the final to play the Nyngan trio of Steve Read, Adam Reynolds and Rex Vane who have won through to the final after winning their section of this event, played out at Nyngan Bowling Club also over the course of last weekend.
Unfortunately this means the programming of our Club Fours Final has to be changed again and as to when this match will proceed is now a bit of a lottery, with the upcoming pennant season just around the corner, which of course takes precedence over any and all other events.
But there is a possibility if all involved are ok to play this match on Sunday it might be a possibility, but that will be up to the Skips to decide.
Social bowls this week saw 16 players have a hit out on Thursday, whilst Sunday morning’s chook run featured similar numbers.
The full wrap of both days play went something like this.
Thursday: on rink 01 Don Gibson, Clifton Harris and Terry McDonald defeated David McNair, Bob Ashdown and Don Sullivan 20/13, on rink 2 it was Codey Anning and Aaron Clark who got the “W” just 17/16 over Kerry Martin and Peter Cross, whilst on rink 3 we had a draw 15/15 between Bob Davis, Riley Cape and John Heterick, who were up against Noel Delboux, Steve Buttsworth and Danny Carnevale.
At day’s end the winning trio of Don, Clifton and Terry were allocated the winners stall, with Codey and Aaron allocated the runners up spot.
On to Sunday where David McNair, Bill Wilkie and Danny Carnevale recorded a solid 27/06 win over Kerry, Robert and Arnold out on rink 3.
On rink 2 in a “tuff” pairs encounter it was Jimmy Daley and Jeff Schloeffel who just nudged out Phil and Trent 15/13, whilst in the other triples match Codey Anning, Kevin Short and Peter Cross also just got the nod in 19/16 over Clifton, Bob and Steve. At the end of the day it was David, Bill and Danny atop the podium, with Codey, Kevin and Peter next best.
The draw for the “B” Grade Pairs has been done and Matches have been set down for this Saturday, but may be played at any time over the course of the weekend by mutual agreement.
The 4 matches scheduled for Saturday are as following.
Game 01 sees Jimmy Daley and Legs Hartas take on Joey Mickulic and Rabz MacQueen, game 02 features Bob Davis and Geoff Bohm up against that Wiley combination of Clifton Harris and Bill Wilkie, game 03 sees Michell Smith and Riley Cape tackle Tom Newlands and Paul Hilder, whilst in the final confrontation John “Hodgo” Woolfe and Geof Cape do battle with Codey Anning and Ben Clark.
There was a bit of conjecture amongst the format for this championship, but as it is a championship the rules will apply.
So all matches will be of a 2 walk, 2 walk nature.
Not much more to report, but if you’re not involved in any of the action over the weekend, and are playing pennants the selectors would like to see you out on the greens rolling up.
GOLF
GERRIES GOLF
By Norman Lewis
Last Saturday some 28 players turned up in much cooler conditions to play their weekly competition. As can be seen from the scores the Narromine course was in excellent conditions and thanks must go the Greens staff for their efforts in preparing the course during this prolonged hot and dry spell.
In the ladies division ten players participated in the comp which was played on the back nine. The winner was Kerry Richardson who returned to form with 19 points to win from Dale Harding on 17 points. There were no winners in the Ladies NTP which now jackpots, nor the NAGA trophy with insufficient players.
The 18 men played the front nine and here we saw some excellent golf with top scores returned. The winner of the comp was Neil Haley with a great round of 30 stableford points. It was rumoured his scorer had to borrow a calculator to add up his points. Almost a winner was Bob Richardson who took second place on 29 points .Congratulations to both on some fine golf. The men's NTP went to Jamie Roberts who won one golf ball. There was enough men for a NAGA trophy which wen to Bruce Mitchell.
Interest turned to the Pool table after the presentations and here some interesting matches were played. In the opener, Chris Harding and Mal McIntyre defeated Terry Willis and Ian Morgan to advance to the final. In the other preliminary Ross King and Mal Richardson defeated Norm Lewis and Bob Fletcher to make the final. Pom and Mal Mac were the weekly pool champions when the won a tight match as Richo went in off the black. In all a great morning's golf in cooler conditions.
Next Saturday, the Gerries will play their comp with the girls on the front nine and the blokes on the back nine and a hit off at the usual time of 9.00 am.Players are reminded our last Saturday competition will be played on 25th March.
See you all on the tee.
SHOOTING
NARROMINE RIFLE CLUB
Twelve rifle shooters attended the 600 yard shoot at the Narromine-Dubbo rifle range on Saturday 18th February with the weather conditions being a little cooler than the previous weekend. A shifting breeze caused a few headaches and a few stray shots early in the day and scores improved as the wind eased later in the day.
At the end of the first stage, Norm Brown led the target rifle shooters with a score of 47/50, while in F-class, Scott Monaghan and Dave Forster shared the lead with 55/60 apiece.
The second stage saw Norm Brown fire a 48/50 to win the A-grade Cock O’the Walk badge with an off-rifle total of 95/100.
Scott Monaghan fired another 55/60 to win the F-class badge with a total of 110/120, while Dave Forster went on to win the weekly handicap trophy on a count-back from Scott Monaghan.
Aron Horder cleaned up the “pin-hole” early in his first stage to win the jack-pot.
Individual scores were:
Cliff Swane 45/44, off-rifle 89, handicap 10, total 99/100; Graeme Patten 45/45, F-class total 90/120;
Norm Brown 47/48, off-rifle 95, handicap 4, total 99/100; Scott Monaghan 55/55, F-class total 110/120;

Dave Forster 55/54, F-class total 109/120; Nick Reardon 50/49, F-class total 99/120.
On Sunday 19th February, the club held another 1000 yard benchrest shoot with eleven starters.
Wind conditions over that distance were atrocious and few shooters managed a group and score over both stages.
Next Saturday, 25th February, shooting is over 700 yards starting at 12:30pm.
RACING
Condobolin Picnic Cup
By Col Hodges
Humping the 68kg top weight, Double Halo on Saturday was responsible for a gallant performance. He came through the race, winning the $8,000 Royal Hotel Condobolin Picnic Cup (1400 metres) for the second year in succession for 81 year old trainer Bruce Parker from GIlgandra.
Premier jockey Ricky Blewitt from Narromine, after five months on the sideline with a broken wrist, was back in action at Condobolin.
He had the exciting mount on the the nine year old black gelding Double Halo, now the winner of 14 races and over $240,000 prize money.
Pressured for the lead from the 1000 metres by Bemiles, Double Halo ($2.80 favourite) fought hard in the straight for a one length win over Sergeant Bilko (Simone Vella, $4.60) with Bemiles (Shannon Fogg, $4) holding on for third
Racing well at recent TAB meetings, four year old grey gelding Mr Swift was a stylish winner of the Condobolin RSL Open Handicap (1000 metres).
Ridden by Shannon Fogg for Condobolin trainer Mark Ward. Mr Swift ($2.80 to $2.30 fav.) swept around the field approaching the home turn.
He scored by nearly four lengths from Miss Mellencamp (Katelyn Jenkinson, $5) and Fettlers Boot (Samara Johnson, $7).
Mr Swift is raced by David Simmons (Trundle) Dr Lily Ward (Condobolin). Wayne McDonell (Orange) and the trainer Mark Ward.
Another popular win for the locals was Dublin Dan. Dublin Dun is owned by Brent, Simone and Luke Grimmond and trained at Condobolin by their father Graham Grimmond.
The first leg of a winning double for Shannon Fogg, Dublin Dan ($2,20 fav.) led most of the way for an easy win over Invincible Halo (Maddison Wright, $5) and Vouloir (Ricky Blewitt, $7) in the Sincock LVM- Forbes Livestock Maiden Plate (1000 metres).
Now based at Bathurst, Shannon Fogg had been a track work rider at Condobolin. For the Sarah McIlrick, Parkes trained As Easy As, it was a "stroll in the park" when winning the Chamens Supa IGA Class 3 Handicap (1400 metres).
Near last early, As Easy As (Samara Johnson, $4) made ground from the 600 metres and cruised home from Dynamic Dora (Maddison Wright, $2.50 fav.) and Where's Roger (Simone Vella, $9).
The final event, the 1700 metres Grain Corp Class 2 Handicap saw an exciting finish with Ashley Boyd from well back gaining a rails run on the Andrew Molloy, Cowra trained Not On Time ($3 fav.).
It was a close win over the Les Bryant, Parkes trained pair Jeweller's Luck (Kath Bell, $8) and Surprise Star (Katelyn Jenkinson, $15). Condobolin attracted a very good crowd.
