Last Wednesday some 13 players attended for the weekly Gerries golf competition played on the back nine of the Narromine course. The scores recorded on the day were an indication of the competition where the scores ranged from 25 points to 20 points.

Three players tied on 25 points with victory going to Gus Smith on a count back from Tiger Berryman and Ron Green. An excellent win to Smith under such pressure conditions. The Nearest the Pin comp was won by Brian Masling who collected 2 golf balls for his effort. There were insufficient players for the NAGA award however the Captain did announce the name of the player who would have won but this name will remain anonymous.

The pool competition continued the afternoon entertainment Chris Harding and Tiger Berryman played Terry Willis and Gus Smith in the preliminary round. Tiger and "Pom" put paid to Smith's ambition to win the double when he and Willis were defeated, to enable the winners to advance to the final against Ross King and Norm Lewis. The final resulted in a great win for Tiger and Pom who became the weekly champs.

This afternoon the Gerries will play their competition on the front nine with the hit off at the usual time of 2.30pm. 

On Saturday last, the Narromine veteran golfers played their monthly nine hole competition. This event was played in conjunction with the weekly Golf Club event which was a stableford competition and the Veterans event was played on the back nine.

In all some nine players took part and the winner on the day was John Butcher with a fine round of 22 points. Second place went to Geoff Swane 20 points on a count back from Bob Fletcher, while Neil Haley took 4th with 20 points on a count back. The Nearest the Pin went to Geoff Swane.

Veteran golfers are reminded of the following WDVGA Open Tournaments are scheduled for the following dates in the next month:-

Dubbo Veterans Open, Frida May 5. Narromine Veterans Open Thursday May 18, Warren Veterans Open Thursday June 1. Narromine will also be conducting the  NSWVGA 4 Ball State Championships September 16 & 17. The Narromine Veterans Club would like to congratulate club patron and past president Jack Burgess on celebrating his 90th birthday last week. Many happy returns Jack.

Last Saturday we had 24 starters in a Single Stableford sponsored by the Club. John Butcher won the day with 44 points  from Steve Gillette on 43 points. Ball winners Tony Harding 41 & Neil Haley 40 points. NTPs 9th visitor Phil Johnston & 10th Rob Williams.

On Sunday we had 32 starters in a 4BBB sponsored by Greg Barling & Peter Gainsford. The winners were Toby & Ben Rush with 50 points from Ash Bullock & Mick McKean on 49 points. Third on a count back  were Steve & Jenny Ward with 46 points as did Neil & Michelle Ashdown. NTPs 9th Michelle Ashdown & Toby Rush 10th Vicki Gainsford & Mick McKean.

Don’t forget this Saturday Night at the club another Day On The Green with Blackfeet  a band from out west. Also coming up May 7 the 2 Person Ambrose Timbrebongie House Charity Day with stacks of prizes .Next Saturday we have a 2 Person Ambrose sponsored by Agrigrain & Sunday a 4BBB sponsored by Tony & Judy Barlow and Paul & Sue McCutcheon.

Wednesday April 19 saw a large field of 22 players. 19 players contested 1 st round of Narromine Bowl with Loyalty Roberts Trophy and 3 played a 9 hole comp.

A-grade and Loyalty Roberts Trophy was won by the evergreen Vicki Gainsford 69 nett winning on a count back from Robyn Jones who won C-grade with 69 nett. B-grade winner went to Gail White 74 nett. Optional Ball winners;- 1 st Jeanette O’Brien 72 nett, 2 nd Maida O’Mally 72 nett, 3 rd Tracy McIntyre 73 nett, 4 th Dale Harding 74 nett. Bev Woods has become the ‘Cereal Drawn Card’ winner. Nearest Pin 9 th Betty Berryman, 17 th Jan Brennan.

Nine Hole competition won by Marie Bishop. Good to see Marie back at golf after a long spell away also, Barbie Tuck and Jenny Ward.

Saturday April 22: 13 Players attended a Par event with Kerrie Richardson’s Trophy. A-grade and Kerrie Richardson’s Trophy winner was the very capable Judy Barlow with a massive +8! B-grade was won by Gail White +2. C-grade was won by a very much improved golfer Kerrie Richardson +3. Kerrie will not be in C-grade for long.

Optional Ball winners;- 1 st Sue Richardson +3, 2 nd Joy Whiteman +1.

Nearest Pin 9 th Sue Richardson, and 17th was not won.

Saturday April 29 Medical Institute Trophy A,B and C-grades Stroke Event, plus a putting competition with Bev Woods’ Trophy.

NARROMINE

The Far West District Singles, in all three divisions took pride of place last weekend for our Narromine boys, and at the end of day’s play on Sunday evening we still had one soldier left standing: In the Major singles Robbie Stanford, Aaron Clark & Ben Clark wandered down to Dubbo City, and with some very Draws bowls Aaron Clark snuck past Robbie in their round 2 clash, then had a solid win over Greg McEwan in the afternoon quarterfinals match. Ben Clark & Robbie both played pretty good but, at this level if you’re not spot on, well the other fella advances at your expense and this time around that’s what happened. So Aaron now takes on Chris Rosanes in a semi-final clash next Saturday morning at Dubbo City and we wish him well. In the other two singles divisions we didn’t fair quite so well, at Trangie in the President’s Singles “Rabz” MacQueen won his first match quiet comfortably, but found the form of John Heterick in the afternoon clash a bit too good. John has franked that form and at the close of the weekend he finds himself one of only two left standing, the other being young James Robinson from West Dubbo. I had the good fortune to be the Controlling body at Trangie over the weekend, and witnessed some excellent bowls from this group of Lower Graded Pennant players, and it makes me wonder why we don’t get a few more Narromine boys enter into this division, because based on what I saw it certainly is a winnable event for our Grade 6 players. In the senior singles, which Narromine hosted again we had a few starters, Namely Robert French, Don Sullivan & Danny Carnevale and again despite some good results early by days end on Sunday afternoon none of the trio was still alive in this event. A Big Thank You to those members who marked a game in the senior singles over the weekend and also to Geoffrey Anderson who helped out with the Umpires duties.

Due to the uncertainty of players involvement in District events last weekend and the next two weekends coming the bowls committee has decided to delay the start of our A-grade Pairs championships to May 13. 

Social Bowls this week saw some dozen players have a hit out on Thursday, whilst 10 gentlemen went round in the chook run on Sunday morning. A full wrap of both days play went something like this: Thursday on rink 03 Rick Bohm, John Heterick & Don Sullivan nudged out Robert Bateman, Steve Buttsworth & Danny Carnevale 20/19, whilst on rink 4 it was a similar score line for the winning trio of Don Gibson, Arnold Gillespie & Peter Cross who had a ding dong battle with Mal Dawes, Bobby Ashdown, & Terry McDonald before emerging triumphant 19/18. Young Daniel Carnevale made the final adjudication and awarded the days trophy to Peter & Co on a countback. Sunday morning saw Rob Bateman, Bobby Ashdown & Bill Wilkie awarded top spot for their 25/08 win over “Sticker”, Kevin & Cranky, with the other winning team of Mark Smith & Puddy Gillespie having to be content with adding a “W” to their CV.

Best of Luck to Aaron Clark this Saturday and to all the Narromine teams competing in the District pairs commencing on Sunday, should be good theatre at home with the Club hosting the president’s division of these events.

TRANGIE BOWLING CLUB

Easter Bowls Tournament, held over Easter Saturday and Sunday was another very successful carnival with 22 teams slogging it out over the two days. The weekend started on Good Friday with the Trangie Shearing Mufti Bowls classic having 34 bowls trying for the prize money. But the main carnival was what its all about and after 45 ends each day the eventual winners were the team from Narromine consisting of Peter Cross, Phillip Harding and Sticker Martin. Second place was taken out by Jahn Corcoran and the team from the Parkes Railway. Third place were locals Matt Carter and team and fourth place was again from Narromine; Don sullivan and team.

Narromine was again the winner in our major raffle of seven nights accommodation in Bali for two couples with Terry McDonald picking up the prize. Trangie's Jarrod Kohlenberg won the second prizes of the Trangie Pharmacy Package and our very own Lee-Ann Furney won the bowls shop vouchers. Thank you to Lee-Ann and Skye for their hard work in the kitchen preparing the meals. Thanks to Doug Ferrari for organising these tournaments. Doug also was the winner on the day taking out the calcutta with the winning side.

Thanks to Shane and Jaye for doing the Calcutta and to the people who are too many to mention for all their hard work over the weekend.

Little Athletics is a uniquely Australian sport for children aged 5-16 years. As the name suggests, it is based upon the sports of athletics (track and field) and the events are specially modified to suit the ages and abilities of children. A wide range of running, jumping, throwing and walking events is conducted.
