The results on Saturday were surprising but to those winning duo’s - well played.
For the record the results of last weekend’s play saw Mark Hilder & Alex Sambrook defeat Steve Buttsworth & Terry McDonald 20/16.
Arnold Gillespie & Danny Carnevale prevailed 21/19 in a thriller over Sam Crook & Aaron Hutchison. Jeff Schloeffel & Don Sullivan just nudged out Rabz MacQueen & Peter Cross 22/17 but only after winning the last 5 ends of the match.
Our defending champions had a comfortable 34/17 win over Geoff Anderson & Phil Harding to round out the second round.
Social bowls: Just a dozen lined-up on Thursday, while Sunday morning’s chook run had a depleted line-up due to the Pennant trial in Dubbo.
On Thursday Des Lincoln, Robert Bateman & Terry McDonald won all the chocolates on offer, while Heather McIntyre & Bob Ashdown got the lion’s share of the loot on offer Sunday morning.
Best of luck to our Grade 6 Pennant squad competing in the zone playoffs this coming weekend.
It’s an early start Saturday and all players are asked to be at the clubhouse at 7.15am so we can be on time for breakfast at Dubbo Railway at 8am. The first game is scheduled to commence with trial ends from 8.40am.
Off the bowling green, we had a great trivia night Tuesday, which raised over $1000 for the Narromine Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, but this was the only good bit of the week, as Thursday Saw the Club lose 2 wonderful ambassadors, with the sudden death of Harry Gammon & Bill Shaw.
Later that day we were also informed that Vice President John Edward’s youngest brother Bradley had also passed away.
On behalf of president Kevin, fellow directors & members we offer our condolences to each Family on their respective losses, our thoughts and prayers are with you in these difficult times.
To those members of the Narromine Travelling Bowlers Club who will be attending Harry’s graveside funeral at 11am Wednesday May 24, I ask you to wear your travelling bowlers shirt, as Harry will be in his “judge’s” ensemble.
As Harry had no family in Australia we hope to take a few photos of his many “mates” to send home to his English family.
Well that’s about all I have this week, hope next week, I can report better news about what’s happening up at the ‘Bowly’.

RUGBY LEAGUE
GROUP 11: TIGERS TOO GOOD FOR JETS
NICK GUTHRIE
A four-try haul from star centre Jone Yacadrau led the Nyngan Tigers to a commanding 50-24 win over the Narromine Jets on Sunday.
Hooker Reece Goldmsith was again back to his scheming best from hooker in the win, a result which gives the Tigers two victories from the opening three rounds.
In even more positive news for Stewart Mills’ side is the fact Nyngan is yet to play a match at home, where the atmosphere at Larkin Oval makes it notoriously difficult for away sides to take home the points.
While the hard-running Yacadrau and Goldsmith were the stars there was also strong performances from winger Jone Kerevi and forwards Benny Cokanasgia, Troy Evans and Western Rams under 23s player Norman Fuiava, who all scored in the 26-point win.
The Tigers scored nine tries in the win, with fullback Sam Simmonds scoring once and kicking five goals.
Corey Cox was Narromine’s best in the loss, the Jets third straight to start the season, scoring once and nailing all four conversions.
The only worry for the Tigers is the fact prop Todd Rope was put on report for an alleged crusher tackle by referee Mick Medlin.
Nyngan will play at Larkin Oval for the first time in 2017 next weekend when the defending premiers, Forbes Magpies, roll into town.
Narromine will again play at Cale Oval next round and will take on a Wellington Cowboys side which scored its first win of the season this weekend.
CASTLEREAGH LEAGUE
A large crowd had packed into Gilgandra’s McGrane Oval and a very entertaining Youth League game, which saw a 28 to 24 win go to Coonabarabran, followed by an exciting 14-all draw in the league tag had set the stage for a highly anticipated Boronia Cup clash between the Gilgandra Panthers and the Coonabarabran Unicorns with the two teams sitting first and second on the competition ladder respectively.
Very few of those in attendance would have predicted what was about to unfold.
The opening few seconds of the clash pretty much set the tone for the remainder of the game, with the Panthers rushing down field and being held up over the Coonabarabran line within 20 seconds of the kick-off before then scoring out wide before a minute had elapsed
It simply did not get any better for the Unicorns, as Gilgandra continually punctured the Unicorns’ paper thin defence to run in a point a minute much to the delight of their big following.
In the end the scoreboard read 72 to nil, but it could have been even worse for the Unicorns had the first half not been shortened by 17 minutes due to an unfortunate injury to one of their players who required ambulance attention
It will be a real test for the club as to how they regroup from such a hammering, but regroup they must as they will be hosting the Gulgong Terriers in round 8 of the Christie and Hood Castlereagh League competition this Saturday. The Terriers returned to the winner’s list with a 30 to 16 win over Dunedoo at Gulgong but an examination of the score sheet would indicate a closer contest than perhaps the final score might indicate, with the Swans being only one try adrift of the Terriers in the match.
At Coonamble the Bears had to come from behind in the second half to down a determined Baradine outfit after the scores were locked at 18 all at half-time.
The Magpies went to the lead 24 to 18 in the second stanza but were eventually run down by the home side, with the Grizzlies taking the game 36 to 24.
Results: Gilgandra 72 (Evan Ryan 2, George Alchin 2, Kieren Hazelton 2, Jamie Towney 2, Curtis Carr, Josh Nixon, Luke Ritchie, Owen Batten, Andrew Allport tries Brandon Hammond 10 goals) defeated Coonabarabran 0.
Gulgong 30 (Brad James, Jake Griffiths, Dave Morrison, B Warwicker, Sam Lemon tries, James 5 goals) defeated Dunedoo 16 (Tyson Searle 2, Dane Lane, Jarrod Toole tries).
Coonamble 36 (Andrew McKenzie 2, Josh Gershone 2, Nathan Walker, Derek Robinson, Barry Murray, Adam Cohen tries, Jake Fernando 2 goals) defeated Baradine 24 (Travis Houghton, Tyrone Biles, Kyle Head, Cheyenne Pennel tries, Bryce Daniels 5 goals).
Competition ladder: Gilgandra 14, Gulgong 10, Coonamble 10, Coonabarabran 10, Dunedoo 7, Trangie 7, Baradine 6, Coolah 4.
