The flying Fijian has been a bit hit on the sporting fields since his arrival at Dubbo and on Sunday he created another highlight when scoring a hat trick for Dubbo CYMS in the highly-anticipated Group 11 grand final rematch against the Forbes Magpies.
Not only was a massive on-field achievement, it also created some rare history.
Turuva has now played for each of the five major football sides in Dubbo.
Sunday marked his first game for CYMS and came just a day after he played a key role in the Dubbo Kangaroos’ Blowes Clothing Cup rugby union victory over the Forbes Platypi.
Turuva has proved a big hit at the Roos since linking up with the side this season and just weeks ago he scored an incredible seven tries in an incredible 105-0 win against the Mudgee Wombats.
Playing two sports in two days in nothing new in country footy. There’s been many a player who has played rugby on Saturday before turning out for a local league side on Sunday.
But not only is Turuva a multi-sport star he’s a multi-team star.
Turuva had been a regular for the Macquarie Raiders in Group 11 in recent years before making the move to the Roos and rugby this year.
But, he also spent a year with Dubbo Westside when the Rabbitohs returned to the Group 11 competition in 2013 while he was a regular for the Dubbo Rhinos when the men in black and gold were playing rugby in the Graincorp Cup.
And not only has he achieved the rare feat of playing for each of Dubbo’s five major football sides, he has been a star player for each.
He has been among the Roos’ best this season while he only got a call-up for CYMS on Sunday after a number of injury worries.
But after a star performance and three tries, it is every chance Turuva could play a key role for two sides chasing different premierships this season.
