GERRIES GOLF
FLETCHER WINS WEEKLY COMP
Last Wednesday a field of 14 golfers turned up for the weekly Gerries 9 hole competition on the back nine and once again the scoring was top class with some excellent cards returned.
Winner on the day was Bob Fletcher with a great score of 30 points.Ross Fraser was second with 26 points great scoring on the Narromine course which is in top condition with plenty of run. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Last weeks winner, Terry Willis, showed the result of his handicap reduction as he took out the NAGA prize this week. He did however manage to win the NTP and collected two golf balls for his effort. It was a pretty good afternoon for golf enjoyed by all.
Six players lined up for the Pool comp and in the preliminary match Mal Richardson and Gus Smith defeated Chris Harding and Bill Burke to advance to the final where they met Terry Willis and Bob Fletcher. Unfortunately Fletch could not produce his golf form on the table and they went down to Smith and Richardson. It appears Richo produced an "Eddie Charlton " performance to guide his team to victory and become the weekly champions. Well done Gus and Mal.
This afternoon the Gerries will play the front nine with the hit-off at the usual time. See you all on the tee.

SHOOTING
NARROMINE-DUBBO RIFLE CLUB
IBS 600yd BR Match Report
During march this year the National Rifle Association of Australia legislated and adopted the international 600 yard benchrest shooting discipline.
On Sunday April 16, the Narromine Dubbo Club was the first club in Australia to introduce and allow members to undertake this unique long range shooting competition.
Since that time numerous other clubs have also introduced or are in the process of introducing this event.
On Sunday June 12, the Narromine-Dubbo club held a second official 600yd BR competition with fifteen competitors attending.
Conditions on the day were moderate pulsing south east and north east breezes.
During the match, Graeme Woods set a new Australian Group Record of 2.204 inches and Dave Goodridge achieved an Australian Score Record of 47.2/50.
Both competitors used rifles chambered in 6mmBR calibres.
The next scheduled long range Benchrest event is a 1000yd BR Match on Sunday the 9th of July, commencing at 8.30 am. Visitors and spectators are most welcome to attend.
BOWLS
NARROMINE
The A-grade singles threw up some interesting results last weekend, and given that we are now down to the quarter-finals, no doubt this coming weekend will see a few more surprises. So last weekend here’s what happened in round 2: James “Boppa” Daley got a nice old fright from Rookie Codey Anning, who scored some 27 shots in their match, with really only “boppa’s experience the difference between who advanced and who went home. The other interesting encounter featured Joey Mikulic up against Robert French, with again most pundits thinking it should be a walk in the park for “Frenchy”, but this park featured a few “thorns” as Joey certainly made the favourite work for his money also accumulating some 27 shots along the way. It augers well for the future of the Club when you see these young men coming through the ranks. In the other matches Don Sullivan also just sneaked past Aaron Clark in what was always going to be a difficult equation for either party to break the shackles and advance quickly. Steve Riley also advanced at the expense of Phil Harding, and surprisingly easy 31/09, as most pundits would have given the “Hom – Train” a chance in this Match. Trent Jacobson defeated Rabz Macqueen 31/23 earlier in the week to make the last eight, whilst Danny Carnevale & Bruce Maher received forfeits from their respective opponents and they too now find themselves in the last 8.
So this coming weekend we hope to Play all 4 quarter-final confrontations, 3 on Saturday afternoon and 1 game on Sunday to get this event out to the last 4. Saturday will see the following players in action, Bruce Maher, Danny Carnevale, Robert French, Trent Jacobson, Steve Riley & James Daley, whilst Don Sullivan & Robbie Stanford will play on Sunday Morning, provided both players do not have any other commitments.
Saturday Afternoon will also feature the delayed “A” Pairs semi-final match featuring Jeff Schloeffel & Don Sullivan up against our defending Champions Aaron Clark & Robbie Stanford, with the winner of this match advancing to the final, where awaits Alex Sambrook & Mark Hilder, who have already reached this status, courtesy of their win in the other semi-final a fortnight ago.
We are having a day on the green for “Harry” on Saturday July 8, with cost of the day $20 per head, which will include a luncheon and a couple of games of bowls. It is single entries and all are welcome to participate in what promises to be a fun day.
Congratulations to Robbie Stanford who has made the Zone 4 Representative Squad to play in the State Championships at Port Macquarie in September. Robbie was part of a pretty successful Zone 4 Representative team who competed in the “Quad” series between Zones 02,04,15 & 16 last weekend at Gulgong, and the selectors saw fit to include him in the next stage of the representative season, so well played Robbie and best of luck later in the year.
CASTLEREAGH LEAGUE
PANTHERS KEEP CUP
The much anticipated Christie and Hood Castlereagh League Boronia Cup game between the first placed Gilgandra Panthers and the second placed Coonamble Bears saw the highly valued silverware remain in Gilgandra after the home side registered a 34 to 20 win
Even though the game could not be described as scintillating viewing, it was still a solid battle between the two arch rivals in front of a very good crowd
Both teams seemed intent on winning the battle in the middle, and the forward battle was quite intense at times, but it came at the expense of expansive attack, a facet of the game which most certainly is normally a key element to the Panther’s style of play
Whilst Gilgandra was never headed in the contest on two occasions the Bears were on equal terms on the scoreboard and at 14 all at half time the game was still well and truly in the balance.
Two tries to the Panthers in the opening minutes of the second half saw them shoot out to a 24 to 14 lead, but the Bears fired up again and with 20 minutes to go it was most certainly game on with the scoreboard reading 24 to 20.
It was to be Gilgandra who finished the stronger of the two teams, scoring two converted tries in the final quarter of the match to take the two competition points and consolidate their place at the top of the competition table
It was a good day for the host club, with their Pink Panthers leapfrogging Coonamble into second place on the ladder when they downed the Bearettes 20 to 16 in a highly entertaining league tag game
At Coonabarabran the Unicorns played out a thrilling 30 all draw with the Dunedoo Swans, and whilst they split the two competition points the door to a semi final berth is still well and truly open to the Swans, as they sit just one point adrift of the fourth placed Unicorns on the competition table
Similarly both Baradine and Trangie remain in the semi final race, with the Baradine Magpies coming from an 18 to 6 half time deficit to outscore the Coolah Kangaroos 28 to 6 in the second half of proceedings to take the game 34 to 24, and though the Trangie Maggies went down in their game against Gulgong at Gulgong, they were well in the match for a long period and did enough to suggest that they will be a tough outfit to roll as the season progresses. Gulgong took the game 34 to 22 after it was 10 all at half time
Round 12 this weekend throws up some vital clashes, not the least of which will take place at Baradine when they host Dunedoo.
With both clubs trying to force their way into the top four, a win or alternatively a loss, could well be season defining and a good crowd is expected to be on hand with the league tag contest also an important one, particularly for Baradine as they are currently located just one point out of the four.
