The Trangie Community gathered in droves at the Alan Burns Oval on Tuesday morning to hear over $850,000 will be put into the local sporting facility.

Member for Dubbo Troy Grant and his colleague Paul Toole travelled to Trangie to make the announcement that the state government were committing $692,000 to the cause. This combined with $100,000 from Narromine Shire Council, $12,000 from the Trangie Action Group and $50,000 from in kind donations amounts to $854,000 of money and work for the facility.
The Trangie community were delighted, cheering when Mr Grant announced the amount.
The sporting clubs and community in general have been crying out for the oval to be upgraded for years. This upgrade includes improved playing surfaces, new drainage, irrigation and lighting as well as outdoor exercise equipment at the fields.
“I welcome out government’s support for this upgrade which will enable more people in our region to get involved in sport and leisure activities no matter what their age or fitness level,” Mr Grant said.

Trangie Tigers’ life member Kevin Flinn said the sporting community in the township are delighted by the announcement.
“On behalf of the Trangie community I would like to thanks Troy Grant and Paul Toole for their input and this grant,” he sad.
“The sporting bodies are a big part of this community.”

Mr Flinn said it wasn’t just the work of the state politicians with the application for the funding started by a familiar face in Trangie.
“Congratulations to all the people involved particularly Ian Toole, he played a massive part and (Mayor) Craig Davies has had a big input,” he said.
“This is well overdue for a big upgrade and the lighting will be a great asset I know cricket and rugby union will be playing night games and other sporting bodies will too.”
The $692,000 grant was awarded to the Trangie Rugby Union club but will benefit the entire community.
“The grant has been awarded to Trangie Rugby Union Club. In addition to rugby union, the upgraded fields will benefit participants in other sports including football and cricket,” Mr Grant said.
Minister for Racing Paul Toole said the project is one of 11 across NSW funded from the Clubgrants category three sport and recreation fund in 2016/17.
Trangie was the first announcement.
“These grants are funded through a rebate on state’s registered clubs’ gaming machines to reinvest profits back into community projects,” Mr Toole said.
“The successful 2016/17 funding recipients have been selected from an incredibly strong field of more than 400 applicants.”
