Narromine Bowling
The B grade Singles championships for 2017 kicked off last weekend with four matches set for Play Saturday afternoon, and as usual the window tappers certainly got value for money, with one match in particular getting them out of their chairs on more than one occasion.

But more on that match later, firstly to game one with young gun Codey Anning starting his campaign off in fine style with a solid win over Brian Payne. Brian jumped out of the blocks and quickly led 06/00, but Codey soon found his range and quickly reeled in Brian’s lead, so much so that after another dozen ends or so he was in the driver’s seat at 20/08 and continued in the same way to quickly wrap up the match 31/12.
Game two saw a similar score line between Rabz Macqueen and Joey Mikulic, with Rabz’s experience the telling point of this match, for when he lost an end it was usually only a loss of one or two shots, but Joey tipped out too many multi’s that proved the difference.
Game three saw the luckless Paul Hilder find a few new gates in his travels against Ben Clark which in the end was again the difference between this match having a lot closer margin than the end result to “Beaver” 31/18.
The final contest featured Trent Jacobson up against Geoff Anderson and for the first 2 ½ hours of this contest it was mostly Trent in total control and at 28/17 most pundits had Trent over the line, but as always in Singles those last few shots are the hardest to get and again those who witnessed the last 12 ends of this match, were wondering what’s going on here, and when Geoffrey got to 30 first you knew it was a “Your Kidding Moment coming Up” and yes it was with Geoffrey winning 31/29 to advance to the quarter finals next Saturday.
So next Saturday the four matches shape up like this:
Game 1: Rabz Macqueen versus Geoffrey Bohm. Game 2: Leg Hartas Versus Codey Anning. Game 3: Jimmy Daley versus Ben Clark and Game 4: Geoff Anderson versus Mick Wright. The defeated players from round one are required to mark, namely Brian Payne, Paul Hilder, Joey Mikulic and Trent Jacobson and to avoid any hic-cups it would be appreciated if for some reason you cannot mark a match next Saturday afternoon at 1.30pm, please advise the Bowls Committee or any director.
Nominations for GUB Thorne day are filling up very nicely, and with only a few vacancies left intending players or teams should nominate sooner rather than later for this August 26 extravaganza. It will feature breakfast, bowls, luncheon, a karaoke and all for just $40 per head, with some great prizes to be won why wouldn’t you be playing on this day?
Social bowls this week saw Don Gibson, Des Lincoln and Don Sullivan collect the lion’s share of the loot on offer on Thursday afternoon, courtesy of their solid 31/12 win over Bert Hand, Clifton Harris and Peter Cross.
In the other triples confrontation Peter Kelly, John Heterick and Danny Carnevale defeated Noel Delboux, Bob Ashdown, and Terry McDonald 24/18.
Sunday Morning saw a couple of Pairs matches scheduled for play which resulted in Rob Bateman and Steve Buttsworth getting all the chocolates for their win over Bob Davis and Bill Wilkie, whilst in the other match it was Bob Ashdown and Clifton Harris who prevailed over Mark Smith & Ben Clark.
With Spring, just around the corner, wish full thinking on my behalf , the tournament season and and plethoria of events will be cropping up on the calendar, including the Club Challenge and BLP Cup, a new event. It is hoped that we may be able to generate some interest in playing in a few of these events, given that we only have a couple or three championships to complete our season at Narromine Bowling Club.
So with that in mind the nomination sheets for the Club “A” and “B” grade Triples, along with the Consistency Singles will be posted on the notice board in the next week or so. Information as it comes to hand about the Club Challenge and BLP Cup will also be placed on the notice board for those interested in being part of a Narromine squad.
Well that’s it for this week, hope to catch up with you all sometime when next you’re up at the “Bowly”
Rugby League
With just two competition rounds remaining in the 2017 Christie and Hood Castlereagh League competition the only certainty at this point is that the Gilgandra Panthers will finish as the rugby league minor premiers
The Gilgandra Panthers wrapped up the rugby league minor honours when they downed the Coonabarabran Unicorns 62 to 24 at Coonabarabran on Saturday.
The win extended the Panther’s unbeaten run for the season and ensures them hosting rights for the major semi final that will be held on August 26, at the same time killing off any hope that the Unicorns had of reaching the play offs
The Dunedoo Swannettes also took a big step towards claiming the league tag minor premiership when they defeated Gulgong last Saturday, taking the game 42 to nil
Sitting two points in front of Warren on the competition ladder, and with the bye next week, the Swannettes can mathematically be ousted from the top position on the ladder, but they will have to lose their game to Coonamble in the final round. Warren will have to win their two remaining games by big scores in order to first of all draw level on the competition ladder, then secondly better the for and against record of the Swannettes
The Baradine Magpies staked a big claim for a semi final berth in the rugby league when they downed the second placed Coonamble Bears in a fiercely contested contest at Baradine.
The Magpies won the entertaining game 28 to 22.
The Dunedoo Swans also kept their semi final hopes alive with a stirring 30 points to 16 win over the Gulgong Terriers in front of an appreciative crowd at Dunedoo
With both the Magpies and the Swans having byes next week that means the semi final fates of both teams will be sealed in the final round of the competition where the Magpies will travel to Gilgandra to take on the Panthers and the Swans will be at home to Coonamble
Similarly the league tag ladder has many possible final scenarios with Baradine still in the mix for fourth spot if Coonamble lose both their remaining games
The pecking order on both competition ladders is far from sorted as the pressure builds towards the finals series
The run to the semi finals for the clubs still in semi final contention reads as follows;
Coonamble play Trangie (H), Dunedoo (A), Gilgandra league tag have a bye, then play Baradine (H), Gulgong play Coonabarabran (H) and Coolah (A), Warren (league tag only) play Baradine (H) and Trangie (A) Baradine rugby league have a bye, league tag play Warren at Warren, then Gilgandra at Gilgandra and Dunedoo have the bye in both league tag and rugby league then host Coonamble

Richardson and Ferrari win four ball event.
Last Wednesday, a total of 13 golfers turned up for the 4BBB event played on the back nine at Royal Narromine. The course is in good condition considering the fact there has been no rain for some time and scores are climbing due to the fact there is a lot of run on the dry track.
Winners on the day were Mal Richardson and Vince Ferrari with 29 stableford points. They defeated Gus Smith and Greg Kearines on a count-back both pairs scoring 29 points. Congratulations on great rounds of golf. Ferrari also picked up the NTP trophy which on the day was worth three golf balls.
Attention turned to the pool table where the weekly competition continued. The preliminary round played between Chris Harding and Mal Richardson against Terry Willis and Gus Smith which went to Willis and Smith who were about to claim the weekly title until the organiser declared they would have to play Ross King and Norm Lewis in the final.
This proved controversial and caused much debate. It was finally decided Lewis should get there earlier to be in the draw proper. After a long and complicated game where many rules were broken and debated, Willis and Smith eventually won and claimed the weekly title which was well deserved.
This afternoon's event is a single Stableford on the front nine with the hit off at the usual time of 2.30pm. See you all on the tee.
