In their last home game for the 2017 season the Trangie Tigers lost a close game to the Geurie Goats 20 to 17.

Although being the dominate team for the majority of the game the Tigers made crucial mistakes that cost them the game.

The Geurie Goats first try came from such a mistake when the Tigers lost the ball in a tackle straight in to the hands of a Geurie player who ran half the length of the field to score.

From persistent pressure the Tigers replied with a try to Matt Wade, who has returned following a brief retirement to score the Tigers first try.

Again, from poor ball security by Tigers the Geurie Goats were able to capitalise to score their second converted try to have a handy 14-5 half time lead.

In the second half, the Tigers continually attacked the Geurie try line only to be repelled by dogged Geurie defence.

The Tigers finally crossed when a simple well executed backline move allowed outside centre Brenton Montgomery a clear pathway to the try line. The try was converted by Chris O’Shea to have the Tigers trailing by two points.

Ill-discipline by the Tigers allowed the Goats to extend their lead to eight points with two penalty goals.

The Tigers hit back with a try to Captain Mick Oriel.

Which had the Tigers trailing by three points 20-17, which was the final score.

This Saturday is the last round of the competition and the Tigers travel to Orange to take on the lowly placed Orange Charles Sturt University.

The Club has organised a coach for the players and supporters to travel to the game.

The Tigers will most likely take on Molong in the first round of semi-finals in two weeks time. 

The Graincorp Cup grand final will take place on Saturday, September 2.

BOWLS

President Andrew Barber had his president’s day bowls on Saturday July 22 with a field of 26 teams attacking the greens.

The contingent of teams travelled from Dubbo City, Dubbo Railway, West Dubbo, Peak Hill, Tottenham, Narromine, Gulargambone, Gilgandra and Yeoval. 

Along with our locals, everyone had a great day.

At the end of two games of 16 ends it was ex Trangie bowler Jim Kendall and team from Dubbo City taking out first prize.

Another Dubbo City team of Ian Hobson and team as runners-up Ray Cross and team from Dubbo Railway were the afternoon winners.

Andrew thanked all the teams for travelling the local bowlers who made this a great day out.
