The Ear Bus team are very excited to be working in partnership with the school and look forward to providing free ear health checks to students at St Johns into the future.
The Ear Bus Project has been working closely with Narromine Shire Council to provide regular testing throughout the shire, Children at Tots on Temoin have also benefited from a visit by the Ear Bus this week.
The Ear Bus project came about because of an identified need in the community with a mission to improve awareness and understanding of the prevalence and impact of Otitis Media in children across the area and to provide support with the identification, treatment pathway and improvement of educational outcomes for all involved.
The project has two paid staff and is run by a dedicated committee of volunteers.
The project relies on donations, fundraising and grants to allow it to continue to run and is also fortunate to have many audiologists volunteer their time to the Bus. The Ear Bus is unique because it is the only program in Australia that provides hearing testing for children of all ages and all groups.
This week Trangie has been able to have a visit due to the generosity of Audiologist Cathy McLellan who has taken holidays and travelled to Dubbo from South Australia to donate hearing testing for us, Cathy has enjoyed the hospitality of the Matilda Motor Inn in Dubbo who have assisted with providing accommodation to Cathy while she has donated her time and expertise to the project which will greatly benefit children from the Trangie district.
