As the result of a survey carried out recently it was established that there was a need in the Narromine Shire for a Cancer Patients and Carers Support Group.
“Anyone who has had treatment for cancer, is still having treatment and is being cared for by friends and family have a lot of valuable information that could help others,” president Judy Barlow said.
“Narromine Community Health nurse Rosemary Maunder is undertaking the task of setting up a support group and the first meeting is close at hand.”
The first meeting will be held this Wednesday at 10am at the Narromine Community Health Centre.
“Camilla Thompson from Cancer Council NSW will be the guest speaker and people attending will have the opportunity to share valuable information with those in attendance,” Mrs Barlow said.
Mrs Thompson is a former Narromine resident and has been passionate about cancer education and awareness in the area.
“The idea of this group is to share and receive valuable information and find out from others tips that may be very helpful,” Mrs Barlow said.
The following meetings will be held on the third Wednesday of the month , same time and place with a health professional guest speaker on each occasion who will speak on a topic related to the cancer journey.
“Cancer touches so many people either directly or indirectly and this is a wonderful opportunity to be well informed. Everyone is welcome,” Mrs Barlow said.
