The A-grade Triples Championships commenced last weekend and due to the nature of the draw only 2 first round matches were scheduled under the play sub or forfeit law. So Game 1 saw Arnold Gillespie, Jeff Schloefell & Don Sullivan defeat a new look team in Joey Mikulic, John Woolfe & Robbie Stanford 27/10 whilst in the other encounter it took and extra end for Geoff Bohm Terry McDonald (Sub For Rick Bohm) & Danny Carnevale to get the chocolates over Rabz Macqueen, Geoff Anderson (Sub for John Edwards) and Trent Jacobson, and by all reports Trent Did a pretty good job in the unfamiliar role of skipper.
With the October long weekend enticing a number of our players to have a “crack” at various tournaments throughout the region there will be no championship matches scheduled for this weekend, however if by mutual agreement any teams wish to “get in and play” their 2nd round match please feel free to do so.
The A-grade Triples will re-commence on Saturday October 7 with some 4 quarter finals fixtures programmed for play, so watch this space.
Social bowls this week saw Bob Davis grab a double of sorts, firstly with Clifton Harris to claim most of the prize pool on offer on Thursday and then in Sunday’s chook run he teamed up with Arnold Gillespie to again record the best win of the day, nice work Bob.
The Sectional play in the Club challenge will be played on Saturday October 14 and at this stage Narromine will have a team in the Men’s Silver Division & also the Men’s Blue Division: Self-appointed Blue team Manager Norman will be speaking to his squad this week to finalise positions and any travel requirements.
The Flyer for our Annual Triples tournament has been posted on the Notice board this week, and thanks to our major Sponsor BCiB Club Insurance Brokers the money side of things is looking good. We are expecting a few local organisations to also jump on board, and hopefully this too will assure we have a good field.
Not much more to report, best of luck to all Narromine Teams competing in tournaments this long weekend, last year we had a few of the boys in Red Trousers up on Podiums, here’s hoping for more of the same.
GERRIES’ GOLF
WIN FOR RICHARDSON
Last Wednesday the Gerries played their weekly competition on the back nine of Royal Narromine. A total of 18 players participated in very pleasant weather conditions. Winner on the day was Bob Richardson with an excellent round of 29 points. Well done Bob but look out for the handicapper who will be looking at your card very closely.
Runner-up was Greg Kearines with 24 points, taking second place on a countback from Bob Fletcher also on 24 points. Good to see Greg back in the winners circle again. The nearest the pin went to Bob Fletcher who won 1 golf ball for his effort. The NAGA prize went to Ross Fraser. In all a great afternoon’s golf.
Attention the moved to the pool table where some interesting matches were played. The first game went to Terry Willis and Norm Lewis who convincingly defeated Mal Richardson and Gus Smith to advance to the final.
The second match went to Ross King and Greg Barling who defeated Tiger Berryman and Chris Harding, to move into the final. The final was a disaster for Lewis and Willis as Lewis sank the black with only his second shot to give the champions title to King and Barling. They were delighted with the victory. All in all a great afternoon was had by all.
The Veteran Club thank the Gerries Club for their support of the recent NSW Vets Championships. Last Saturday there were only two players backing up for the Vets 9 hole which was won by Ash Bullock, with 21 points and the other trophy going to Dudley Alcorn for NTP.The next Vets 9 hole will be on the front nine on Saturday October 7.
This afternoon the Gerries nine hole stableford event will be on the front nine with the hit-off at the usual time of 2.30pm. See you all on the tee.
