Whilst there have been challenges and the devastating loss of Cr Peter Drew, there have also been many achievements to celebrate.
Mayor Craig Davies has been pleased with the achievements of Councillors and Staff over this past year.
“Many of the initiatives of Council are long term projects that can be years in the planning and development. It has been important to take a strategic and long term approach to the business of Council and the development of our community,” Cr Davies said.
The past year has seen the appointment of a new General Manager and some key executive staff.
“A significant change in direction of the Council has occurred under the leadership of our new General Manager Jane Redden, and supported by an extensive community consultation process for the development of the Community Strategic Plan 2027,” Cr Davies said.
Council have highlighted the Burns Oval Grant, review of rural residential strategy, finalisation of the levee bank flood study, establishment of Economic Development Group as a council committee, completion of flood damage repairs, implementation of new finance system, Trangie heavy vehicle rest area.
Council have also been proactively reviewing the current levels of service of all facilities to ensure that ratepayers’ money is spent in the most efficient and effective manner.
“There are many more changes in planning stages at the moment which will see an even greater benefit to the communities of our great shire,” said Mayor Davies.
Recent upgrades and operational changes to facilities such as the Narromine gymnasium has seen a significant increase in utilisation and positive feedback from the community.
At the September Council meeting, Councillors also welcomed Trudy Everingham to her new role as fellow Councillor following the recent Council By-election in August.
“The commitment of all to the progression of our shire is evident in all that we do and I look forward with great excitement to the next three years of our Council term,” Cr Davies said.
