We currently are looking for keen enthusiastic people who would love to get involved and give back to our community.
What is Fire and Rescue NSW Retained (or on-call) firefighter?
We are just everyday men and women who balance our work, study and family commitments with a critical ‘on-call’ role in our local community.
Retained firefighters work as part of a team (or crew) to provide, when needed, an extraordinary service to our local community of not only Trangie but surrounding towns when needed.
You will be part of one of the world’s largest fire and rescue services and have the opportunity to work with other emergency services and community groups.
As Trangie is a Primary Rescue station we undergo intensive training to meet the standards of the ‘State Rescue Board’ (SRB of NSW). With this FRNSW is a registered training organisation and will provide all required training and skills which lead to nationally recognised competencies in firefighting, rescue, first aid and basic life support, rope work, and use of power and specialised tools.

The skills and confidence gained on the job are readily transferable and will equip you to deal with a range of work and life challenges.
As FRNSW is one of the largest rescue organisations in NSW taking part in more than 75 per cent of rescues it is vital we keep our training up to a high standard.
No two callouts are the same; we as retained firefighters respond to a wide variety of emergency incidents including building fires, grass and bushfires, chemical hazards, motor vehicle accidents and assist with recovery from natural disasters such as storms and floods.
With the fire season approaching fast it is critical we recruit now for our station.

“There has been a lot of changes within the organisation from equipment, to fleet vehicles to our training but one things has remained the same we all join for the right reason and that is our local communities that we what to protect,” Firefighter of 20 years Mark Haines said.
“Joining fire and Rescue NSW is like joining one big family, there is great camaraderie within the crew here at Trangie.”
