Last Saturday we had 31 starters in a 2 Person Ambrose for the Jets Old Boys. Tony & Duane Mann were on fire to shoot 59 off the stick which gave them 58 1/4 to win the day from Josh Coen & Jamie McKinnon with 59 1/4. Third was Ron Jackson & Bob Fletcher with 61 3/4. In the non golfers the best score came from Archie & Tony Harding with 60 3/4 from Matt Cook & Tony Harding with 61. Third was Greg & Murray Barling on 62 3/4.  The Bradmans went to Kim Wight & Brian Payne. NTPs 3rd Greg Barling, 9th Tony Beaumont, 10th Duane Mann & 18th Josh Coen.

On Sunday we had 21 starters in a 4BBB sponsored by Neil & Michelle Ashdown and Dennis & Sal McGaw. Mick McKean teamed up with Richard Duff to have 47 points to win from Rob Williams & Vicki Gainsford on 45 points. Also on 45 points were Craig & Richard Duff. NTPs 9th Vicki Gainsford & Richard Duff 10th Vicki Gainsford & Bud Cape.

On Tuesday Night we had 83 starters with the best team being the Deep Divots with 90 points.  Best scores on the night were Daniel Treseder 25, Brett Bourchier 24, Andrew MacQueen 23, Shane Wallace 23, Bob Fletcher 23, Andy Smith 23, Michael Treseder 23, Bruce Mitchell 22, Tony Barlow 22 & Archie Harding 21. NTPs 3rd Toby Rush, 9th Peter Treseder, 10th Jenny Fitzgerald & 17th Michael Treseder.

Next weekend we have the 4BBB Championships sponsored by the Narromine Butchery.

Wednesday 25th October the last day of 18 hole golf for 2017 saw a humid warm day. Only a very small field of 9 players attended, 6 contested Sue McCutcheon’s Stroke event with a mixed draw. The other 3 played 9 hole comp.

Trophy winner and B grade was Robyn Jones 69nett. Maida O’Mally won the only Opp ball 70nett. Nine hole comp was won by Jeanette O’Brien 16 stableford points. Nearest Pin winner 9th and 17th was Betty Berryman. Drawn card went to Gail White. Raffle was kindly donated by Wendy Jeffery and won by Joan Collins.

Two ladies travelled east in Vicki’s faithful Trojan, to the beautiful Wellington course, with its pristine fairways and greens on Wed 35th October. Apart from a severe tutoring on how to putt on grass greens neither party won anything. Exception Bev won a ball in ball raffle.

Ladies will have played their first game in Gerries last Saturday October 28.

GOOD FIELD FOR OPENING SUMMER COMPETITION

On Saturday last the Gerries played the opening round of their Saturday Summer Competition. A total field of 16 players turned up for the event played in pleasant conditions.

There were seven Ladies in their competition which was won by Betty Berryman who really blitzed the field with a great round of 22 points. Runner up was Bev Woods on 17 points.Berryman also won the Ladies NTP competition which this week was only worth two golf Balls. Well done girls and welcome to the Gerries Summer comp.

Nine men faced the starter for the Men's comp which was won by Terry Willis with 24 points. This is becoming a bit of a habit for Mr Willis-could somebody please check his handicap. Runner up was Ian Morgan on 23 points and Morgs won second place on a four way count back from John Butcher, Gus Smith and Chris Harding. There was no winner in the Men's NTP. The overall NAGA prize went to Dale Harding.

There was no Pool comp last week as some went home early due no doubt to being over golfed and full of Murray River hospitality. This Saturday, the comp will be played with a hit-off at 9am. Ladies on the front and men on the back nines respectively.

NARROMINE

Congratulations to Codey Anning, Ben Clark & Robert French our 2017 A-grade Triples Champions. The boys won an entertaining final last Saturday afternoon defeating the gallant trio of Mark Hilder, Geoff  Cape & James Coen 23/17.

This now just leaves us with the consistency singles to complete our championship season and to that end the nomination sheet for this event has been posted on the Notice board. It is hoped to kick of this event straight after our triples tournament and so, those of a mind to enter this event have at least a couple more weeks before noms close.

Social Bowls: Thursday October 26 (16 starters): The day's winners were peter Pearce, Des Lincoln & David McNair with 15 points, whilst the runners up were the duo of Clifton Harris & Aaron Clarke just a mere point adrift of the winners.

Social Bowls Sunday again saw just the dozen starters so only the one prize awarded and in this case Kerry Martin AKA Sticker & David McNair were the recipients of all the available loot.

Nominations for our annual tournament are coming in pretty good, with some 14 teams, up a couple from last week already in the frame for a start on November 18 and 19. With spots limited to the first 24 nominated teams it might be wise to consider getting your teams organised sooner rather than later.

Warren product Ben McCalman overcomes injuries to earn back his Wallabies jersey

He’d barely played a match in the past 12 months but Ben McCalman made his presence felt on Saturday and the Warren junior was rewarded with a place in the Wallabies’ spring tour squad.

McCalman proved a handful when coming on for the Wallabies in Saturday’s 31-28 win over the Barbarians at Sydney. The hulking back-rower, who played just one match of Super Rugby in 2017 due to thumb and shoulder injuries and hasn’t played for his country in more than a year, had seven carries and powered for 73 metres. He also produced a number of breaks and after the game his return was complete when Michael Cheika named his as part of the Wallabies' 32-man squad for the spring tour of Japan and the United Kingdom.

His chance of starting in the tour matches have been boosted by a year-ending injury to young back-rower Jack Dempsey. McCalman is one of three products from this region to make the squad with Wellington-born, Dubbo Kangaroos junior Tom Robertson included while Coonamble’s Ned Hanigan is also in.

Robertson made his first start in a Wallabies jersey for some time on Saturday and was solid throughout, earning praise for his work around the set-piece. The Wallabies depart for Yokohama on Tuesday night ahead of their first-ever Test match on Japanese soil on November 4. The tour also includes Tests against Wales, England and Scotland.

NRL

The NRL will stage a record number of double-headers and regional matches in 2018 as well as more Sunday blockbusters in a new-look season schedule. There will also be a standalone weekend for State of Origin II, while no club will have more than three five-day turnarounds as part of a drive to protect player welfare. The Premiership will open with a clash between St George Illawarra and Brisbane Broncos at UOW Jubilee Stadium on Thursday, March 8.

Round One will also feature a Sunday afternoon clash between Penrith Panthers and Parramatta Eels at Panthers Stadium. There will be 28 Sunday matches in Sydney - in 22 of the 25 rounds. NRL CEO Todd Greenberg announced the 2018 season would feature:
