Money raised from the Gibb River Postie Bike Ride will go to support brain cancer research, creating brighter futures for victims of burns, and putting smiles on the faces of sick children in hospital.
The event partners with Australia Post to allow participants to adventure across Western Australia on ‘postie’ bikes.
The adventure for Mr Coen begins in Kununurra where over nine days he will get to relish in scenery of the Kimberley, whilst negotiating creek crossings, unsealed roads and sleep under the stars.
Mr Coen said after his grandmother passed away he was left with inheritance and wanted to do something meaningful with it.
“I was inspired by my grandma who passed away recently at the grand old age of 91, she taught me to help others less fortunate than me.”
“I saw it on Facebook and I’ve always wanted to do a charity ride, and I have the spare money so I thought why not.”
“I’ve ridden a fair bit around the country, and I thought it would be a good thing to do,” Mr Coen said.
For Mr Coen he is looking forward to seeing the sights and meeting a variety of new people along the way.

“There’s a lot of beautiful spots that you pull up, and the scenery there is pretty beautiful.”
The ride costs $1500 which includes the rental of the bike, flights from Perth to Broome, camping fees and meals. In addition each rider must then raise $5000 for the Bright Blue charity.
Mr Coen has already raised over $2000 dollars and will be hosting a golf day in early June to help raise the remaining funds.
“My mum and aunties have helped a lot … and I’ve had a couple of great mates chipping in as well.”
