A Medowie bike enthusiast who has been battling a chronic eye disease since the age of five is flying to the US in a last ditch effort to save his eyesight. Sixteen-year-old Connor Lynch, who is blind in his right eye and has deteriorating vision in his left eye, has been diagnosed with uveitis, in which his immune system attacks his eyes creating inflammation. Mum Amanda has set up a gofundme page to help fund the six-week, $70,000-plus trip to Boston for eye surgery in the hope of giving Connor the best opportunity for long-term vision. The family is also conducting a garage sale on Saturday, October 19, at Williams Pet Produce on Medowie Road, from 9am to 2.30pm, with stalls [including dog wash and bird displays], donations and raffles prizes. Dominoes Pizza at Medowie is also donating $1 from every pizza sold on October 21 between the hours of 5-9pm. For Connor, who has also been diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, the thought of going blind is a frightening one. "Riding mountain bikes and driving means the world to me. I do have problems with my peripheral vision but I am hoping that surgery will correct that." The quietly spoken student at Linuwel School (Morpeth) has undergone surgery, however this caused an infection and his eyesight continues to deteriorate. "We are hoping that surgery by a specialist in Boston will help to restore his vision," Amanda said. Donate through the GoFundMe campaign.
