GERRIES GOLF
COLD WEATHER REDUCES FIELD
Due to a heavy rain and hail storm on Wednesday, the weekly Gerries golf competition was transferred to Thursday. This no doubt had an effect on the field as only ten keen golfers turned up for the competition played in extremely cold conditions.
Obviously the change in weather conditions did not worry John Butcher who won the event comfortably with 25 points."Butch " has been playing consistently well of late and deserved his win. Runner up on the day was Bruce Mitchell on 22 points. There were no winners in the NTP or NAGA events due to the small field.
Unfortunately there was no Pool comp on the day as the pool organiser was absent so in all it was a pretty quiet day.
This afternoon, weather permitting, the Gerries comp will be on the back nine with the hit off at the usual time of 2.30 pm.
Just a note to all Veteran golfers, the Annual Dubbo WDVGA Open tournament will be held on Friday 5th May, if any member wishes to play in this event please let Secretary Norm Lewis know on phone 6889 4212.
That's it for this week - See you all on the tee this afternoon.
LADIES’ GOLF
Wednesday April 26 saw a very healthy field of 23 players attend Nadia McCulloch’s Trophy for A B & C grades Best Nett Scores. Nadia also kindly donated trophies for 4 nearest pins, and 5 Optional Balls and the Raffle.
A beautiful sunny day with a cold wind saw 23 players hit the fairways until about 11.45am.
Then the biggest blackest thunder and hail storm hit, and sent every player running for shelter!
After drying out we were entertained while dining, with a very interesting talk from Ron and Betty Green’s daughter Nadia McCulloch. Nadia has climbed up through the ranks of the Australian Army to Warrant Officer Class One.

TRANGIE GOLF
MACDOUGALL SHINES AGAIN
Veteran Trangie golfer Scott MacDougall has continued his run of great form. On Saturday he combined with Club President Rob McCutcheon to score 46 points in the clubs first 4BBB event.
From six starts this year MacDougall has taken home the money on 4 occasions, some achievement and in direct contrast to his winnings last year where he finished with the Bradman award in the five Western District Open events
Morgan Gale and Daniel Flannery were the runners up with a score of 43 points.
David Duggan hit the best shot on the 6th to take out the NTP at a meter from the hole, great shot but the Delta Boss failed with the putter and the birdies nest remained in tack.
Ladies President Linda McCutcheon won Lyn Davies sponsored par round event. Next week the ladies will line up for the Beth Warner Trophy and their second Monthly Medal event
The men will be competing for Bill Duncan's Monthly Medal Event on Saturday and the club will be sending a team to Cobar Open on Sunday May 7.
Western District Vets will be playing in Dubbo on Friday May 5.
All members are asked to consider their partners for the Foxall Trophy, an 18 Hole Foursomes event on Saturday May 13 and possibly our 2016 presentation day awards and dinner after golf. Alan Kinsey is the Sponsor of this event that has been a long held traditional event at the club.
BOWLS
NARROMINE
Another hectic weekend of District Championships for the boys in the red trousers, there were the usual highlights & the occasional not so good results. Firstly to the singles where after the first weekend of action we only had one soldier still standing, namely Aaron Clark who featured in one semi-final of the Open Singles event, unfortunately he couldn’t advance past this stage of the competition, losing 31/16 to the eventual winner Chris Rosanes from Dubbo Railway.
Sunday and the three Pairs disciplines, with Narromine having entries in each of them. In the Open Mark Hilder & Ben Clark played pretty good bowls all day, but at the days end find themselves on the sideline looking on. Sam Crook & Aaron Clark lost their afternoon encounter against a Railway team and they too bow out of this event. But courtesy of a couple of wins both Trent Jacobson & partner Robert French along with the duo of Terry McDonald & Robbie will now line up in the quarter-finals next Saturday.
Senior Pairs Narromine had a couple of teams entered with mixed results. Young Danny Carnevale & Don Sullivan were defeated in their morning fixture, but Steve Riley & Kevin Rider have made it through to the last 4. Also making the last 4 were “Rabz” Macqueen & Steve Buttsworth, who won 2 “TUFF” encounters in the President’s Pairs event, which was played at home on Sunday. Also playing in the president’s pairs were the duo of Geoff Bohm & James Daley, and after they won their first round match, they too advance to the quarterfinals of this event, but again that’s as far as the boys got going down by the barest of margins to former winners of this event the Gilgandra pairing of Jeff Irvin & Noel Raines in what was a terrific contest that could have gone either way. So next Saturday we have 4 teams still alive in the District Pairs.
Saturday Afternoon was the final of the B-grade Pairs Championships featuring Bob Davis & Partner Geoff Bohm who were up against Codey Anning & Ben Clark. In the end with the match on the line Codey & Ben managed to win 19/17 and this claim the title.
The pennant playoff for our grade 6 squad looms larger than life, with the draw now out and on the board. The boys will play Orange Country Club Saturday May 27 at 9am at Dubbo Railway.
The draw for the Club A-grade Pairs has been posted on the notice board with round 1 action scheduled for play on Saturday May 13.
SHOOTING
NARROMINE-DUBBO RIFLE CLUB
Fifteen rifle shooters, comprising three in target rifle and 12 shooting F-class, competed over a tricky 800 yards at the Narromine-Dubbo rifle range on Saturday April 28 as the south west breeze forced many shots wide of the bulls-eye.
In the first stage, Rob McKay took the lead in target rifle with a perfect 50/50, while in F-class, Clive Simpson fired a 53/60 to hold the lead from eleven other shooters.
The second stage saw little difference in the conditions with some shooters managing better scores later in the afternoon. Rob McKay went on to fire a 46/50 to win the A-grade badge with an off-rifle score of 96/100. Rob Rainbow won B-grade and Locky Simpson won the C-grade badge.
Clive Simpson won the F-class badge with a total of 107/120 and the weekly handicap trophy went to Krystal Tyack on a countback after a strong finish in her second stage. Once again, the “pin-hole’ had some close shaves but survived another week.
Individual scores were:
Lionel Morrish 44/36, F-class total 80/120; Rob McKay 50/46, off-rifle 96, handicap 1, total 97/100;
Dave Forster 52/47, F-class total 99/120; John Sidoti 50/53, F-class total 103/120;

Members are reminded yearly membership fees are due this month and the Annual general meeting is on Saturday May 13, following the 1000 yard shoot.
LEAGUE TAG
NARROMINE UNDER-14
Saturday was the first game of girls Under 14 League Tag in Dubbo for Group XI Junior League to gauge the interest of the the concept for the future. Narromine fielded a very impressive group of girls aged 12-14 in the competition. Their first training session was on Thursday with 3 girls but with more promised to turn up Friday, the day before the game. The girls had a training session to learn the rules and basics of play under the expertise of Steven Thompson (Thommo) for their first and only training session.
Saturday morning we had 13 girls, who impressed everyone with their skill and determination to go through the day undefeated and on top of the ladder.
A big thank you to Tash Piper for her relentless effort to recruit and organise the girls, to Thommo and finally the girls who played the game with a great spirit and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. They could teach the boys a thing or two about attitude, dedication and toughness. Well done.
