It was the first time the Gorillas had travelled to Coolah since 2001, a year that saw the two clubs contest both the first and second grade grand finals in what was then known as the Lang Shield.
The Gorillas were a little sluggish at first and took some time to get into the rhythm of the game.
The first points came in the form of a great try to winger Tim Saunders who raced 50 metres down the eastern touchline, cutting back off his left foot to beat the fullback and cross next to the posts.
Centre Luke Brown crossed shortly afterwards following a typical scything run and text-book “don’t argue.”
Henry Buttsworth converted to have the score at 14-0 to the visitors.
Buttsworth then crossed for a try of his own before a penalty try was awarded when fly-half Tim Gainsford was tackled high in the act of scoring, leaving the scores at 26-0 at half time.
During the early part of the second half both teams rang in several personal changes and the Roos then began to work their way back into the game.
They were unlucky not to cross on several occasions but the scramble of the Narromine defence was up to the task.
A further two tries were scored by the old warhorse Craig Campbell and Sam McLeod who continued his excellent early season form.
On a day of country rugby where the focus was on raising funds for the Sir Ivan bushfire recovery, the Gorillas rugby club chipped in a donation of $300.
We wish all those affected by the fires a speedy clean up and recovery.
The attention now turns to this Saturdays highly anticipated clash with the Trangie Tigers at Alan Burns Oval.
It’s been more than two decades since the teams last played a competition game and both towns are abuzz with excitement.
The Gorillas are coming off big wins throughout the beginning of the season and the Tigers have been rested last week.
Both teams have had a strong start to the 2017 season.
Both teams are not only playing for competition points, but for the glory and bragging rights of being the best team in the Shire.
Kick-off is set for 3:15pm.
Geurie is currently on top of the table with 16 points, followed by Narromine (15), Molong (10) and Trangie (9).
