Last Saturday the Club hosted a very successful day on the green for “Harry”, with some 36 adults and about half a dozen juniors taking to the green. The day was promoted as a fun day and that’s what we had, with players & teams drawn out of the “Hat” and opponents likewise. Needless to say with a format like that there were some surprising results, although “US” good judges weren’t that surprised with a couple of the results. Anyhow for the record the Day’s best performed skip went to James (Don’t put me skip) Coen, whilst “Notgoodenough” Clifton Harris got the NOD for the Day’s best performed second. Mark Smith Rounded out the Major winners list when he was awarded the Day’s best Performed Lead. Other winners on the day were Don Sullivan, Bill West & Jimmy Daley.
Special mention & thanks to those people who came along and donated to the cause especially the “GUB” Thorne Day organisers whose generosity was certainly appreciated. Also to Mr Ron Cape whose Luncheon was well received by all, and to that great supervisor Aaron Hutchison, who did exactly that and nothing else.
We managed to sneak in a couple of Social Bowls days this week, although the field on Sunday morning wasn’t all that flash, owing to “Harry’s” Day on Saturday making a few of the regulars a little dusty Sunday morning. Anyhow Thursday was another story as some 14 keen soldiers took to the green and a full wrap of the days play went something like this. On rink 01 Noel Delboux, Bob Ashdown & James Daley enjoyed a surprisingly comfortable win over Peter Kelly, John Heterick & Arnold Gillespie. On rink 02 it was Sam Crook & Peter Cross who prevailed by a few shots over Danny Carnevale & Aaron Clark, whilst in the 2nd of our pairs fixtures out on rink 03, Clifton Harris & Don Sullivan also “eeked” out a wind by a few shots over Des Lincoln & Terry McDonald. The old bingo machine proved very co-operative and in doing so gave Noel, Bob & James a nice little bonus each, to go with the Meat tray for the day’s best performed team.
With just six players lining up Sunday morning there were no prizes on offer, but that didn’t stop the boys enjoying a hit out in the sunny conditions. Again for the record Peter Kelly, Clifton Harris & Legs Hartas just nudged out Robert Bateman, Kevin Short & Bill Wilkie.
Just a reminder that the nominations for the “B” Grade singles championships close this Saturday and that round 01 and or round 2 of this event will be played where possible on the 29th July.
This coming Saturday the much anticipated final of our Club “A” Grade Singles will take place, with defending Champion Robbie Stanford to play Robert French. With Club President Kevin Rider, unavailable to Mark this match due to another engagement, Senior Vice President John Edwards will be doing the honours. The match is scheduled to commence at 1.30pm Saturday afternoon.
Also this coming Saturday the Club will be providing Live music for members and guests with Maurice & his karaoke in full swing from 7.30pm till late.
GUB Thorne day is only a month away and already the nom sheet is filling up fast, so if you’re a mind to have a run in this event, get your team of triples organised and plonk it down sooner rather than later.
Well that’s it for another week, hope to catch up with you up at the bowly.

GERRIES GOLF
CLOSE BATTLE FOR TOP HONOURS
Last Wednesday, 14 players turned up for the weekly Gerries golf competition played on the front nine at Narromine golf course. Competition was very keen and the scores were top class. Winner on the day was Ron Green with 25 points.Ron is playing consistently well of late and deserved victory. Runner up was John Butcher on 24 points on a count back from Vince Ferrari also on 24 points. The NTP for the day was not won and now jackpots to next week. The NAGA prize for the day went to Bob Fletcher on 14 points-well done Bob. There was a visitor in the field this week, Brett Ferrari and we all hope you had an enjoyable afternoon.
After the presentation of golf prizes, attention turned to the Pool Table where the opening match was between Gus Smith and Bob Fletcher against Mal McIntyre and Terry Willis. McIntyre and Willis were well behind until Fletch fouled when trying for the black. Unfortunately it was not Fletch's day bad luck Bob. Willis and McIntyre then advanced ti the final against Norm Lewis and Chris Harding. This was a very close battle which resulted in a win for Willis and McIntyre who became the champions for the week.
This afternoon the Gerries will play a 4BBB on the back nine with the hit off at the usual time of 2.30.On Thursday 20th, a team of Veteran Golfers will travel to Trangie for their Annual Open Tournament with a hit off at 9.00 am.
