Although numbers were slightly less than in previous years, Trangie Action Group’s annual Christmas party, held at the Bowling Club on Saturday evening, lacked nothing in entertainment value.

The talent of Trangie Central School’s Indigenous Dance Group along with that of solo performer Meghan Seymour added a cultural touch to what was billed as a fun-filled family event.
For the younger members of the crowd, there was face-painting, lucky dips, a football throwing competition, an air guitar demonstration, water slide and of course, Santa Claus.
The chocolate wheel presented players with the opportunity to win a ham, prawns or shopping voucher, while the ever-popular Shop-n-Win draws saw some lucky shoppers pocket up to $750 in vouchers from local businesses.
Vouchers to the value of $250 were won by Coral Herbert, Rod Clark, Kirsty Cook, and Jenny Barber, while Stuart McDonald won the coveted $750 prize, and the Christmas hamper was won by Ros Hayden. Congratulations to all.
Trangie Action Group would like to thank the local business houses who contributed so generously to the success of this event and remind the community that funds raised by TAG are channelled back into the community in the form of facilities meant to better the town for everyone.
TAG’s Terrie Milgate said 2017 had been a big year for the group.
They hosted the 2017 Australia Day event, purchased signs (with the help of a $5000 grant from Monsanto) for the entrance to town, ran the barbecue for riders when the Tour de Oroc passed through town, and held a “very successful” kid’s fishing competition.
2018 is also looking busy.
“We’re looking at putting murals up, so we’re organising for an artist to start some work on some murals in town and earlier on in the year we got a Southern Phones grant for $12,000 and that purchased some outdoor fitness equipment,” Ms Milgate said.
“We’re still liaising with council on a number of issues in town.
“I think the action group is an asset to the town … we’re a voice to council for the whole community.”
The group has consistently been getting about 20 people to meetings, and is always looking for more members and volunteers.
“The attendance of the meetings has been very positive and shows that the community is committed to being involved,” Ms Milgate said.
The next meeting of the Trangie Action Group will be held at the Trangie Bowling Club on Wednesday, January 10, 2018.
