The deadline for homes and businesses in parts of Dubbo to switch their landline phone and internet services over to the NBN broadband access network is looming, with the existing copper network due to be disconnected this week.
Information will also be provided at the sessions about what residences and businesses should consider before they order an NBN powered plan from a phone or internet provider.
NBN local manager Amber Dornbusch said the community information session is part of the NBN’s commitment to improving customer experience on the NBN access network for regional and remote Australia.
“The rollout of the NBN access network is one of the biggest transformations to Australia’s telecommunications industry to ever occur – it represents significant change for consumers and businesses as they make the move to the new network.
“We have been listening to the community’s feedback and are committed to providing answers to the questions residents want to know about the NBN access network and the factors which influence the speed of their internet service.
“Although retail service providers should always be the first point of contact for any resident or business, the NBN local team is dedicated to working with local stakeholders to help ensure local problems are identified early and addressed.
“We encourage members of the community to attend and ask any questions they may have,” said Ms Dornbusch.
Residents and businesses will need to switch their services over to the NBN if they wish to continue using their landline phone and internet services.
Once the NBN access network is switched on in a particular area residences and businesses have 18 months to contact their preferred phone or internet provider to make the switch to an NBN powered plan before the copper network is decommissioned.
The NBN broadband access network was switched on in parts of Dubbo almost 18 months ago which means the copper network will be decommissioned in February 2018.
Existing phone and internet services will stop working if the switch is not made, and making the switch is not automatic.
Residences and businesses need to contact their phone or internet provider to order a service over the NBN access network.
The information session for Narromine will be held on Wednesday, February 14 outside Soul Food at 1-7 Dandaloo Street from 12pm.
Dubbo’s information session will also be held on Wednesday, February 14 from 3pm at the Dubbo Rotunda on the corner of Church and Macquarie street.
