Gerries Golf
Wins for Haring and Bullock
Last Saturday some 18 golfers turned up for the weekly competition with the men looking resplendent in their new Club shirts. The green keeping staff have done a magnificent on the course as it is in great condition considering the recent dry conditions.
In the Ladies division, the winner was Dale Harding with a great round of 22 points. Anne Harmer also had a good round of 22 points only to go down on the dreaded count-back.
There was no winner in the ladies NTP and the jackpot now stands at 10 Srixon golf balls-worth winning ladies.
In the men's division, the winner was Ashley Bullock who had 36 hits on the front nine for a score of 25 Stableford points. Runner up was Ross King also on 25 points.
Very good golf from both players. Malcolm Fraser took the men's NTP prize.
There was no individual NAGA prize due to lack of numbers however Bev Woods won the overall NAGA prize defeating the blokes at their own game.
There were only sufficient players for one match in the weekly Pool competition when Ross King and "Boof" Fraser played Terry Willis and Mal Richardson.
The experienced pairing of Willis and Richardson were favoured to win but "Boof" in his first time effort teamed well with HRH and they became champs for the week easily accounting for their more fancied opponents.
Some special announcements for this week. Birthday wishes to two of our favourite members, Maida O'Mally and Rusty McKenzie.
Rusty was 92 during the week while Maida celebrated her 90th.
Many happy returns to you both and congratulations.
The WDVGA Open Tournament season gets underway on Thursday, February 22 with the Dunedoo event scheduled for Hit off from 8am.
Interested players are asked to contact Ashley Bullock or Norm Lewis so they can notify Dunedoo for catering purposes. Coonabarabran follows on 6th March.
Next Saturday, the Gerries comp hits off at 9am with the ladies on the front nine and the men on the back. See you all at the 19th.

Narromine Bowling Club
Another full weekend of Bowls, with Narromine hosting some 78 players in their section of the 2018 Zone Triples Championships. It started bright and early Saturday morning and wasn’t finalised till late Sunday evening.
Suffice to say with the weather being “NICE” the players needed to be well hydrated before during and after the matches and looking at the Recycle bin Monday morning it appears they got that part right.
But on to the bowls action itself and for the seven Narromine sides who entered into the competition, by Saturday evening we were down to just two outfits left in.
Mark Hilder, Aaron Clark and Sam Crook had played excellent bowls on Saturday and again Sunday morning were in fine form against the very strong West Dubbo Trio of Josh Andriske, Darrin Connolly and Matt Thompson, but just couldn’t win that important end when needing to and eventually bowed out at this quarter-final stage of the event.
Our other team of James Daley, Ben Clark and Glenn Miller however were in no such danger in their quarter-final affair against the West Dubbo trio of Max Low, Dusty Cooper and Frank Rowe winning by a dozen shots to advance to the semi-finals. As luck would have it the West Dubbo Team of Andriske, Connolly and Thompson were their designated opponents.
This time around it was the Lads in the Red Trousers who prevailed albeit by the barest of margins in a match that was of the highest quality. So this meant that James, “Beaver” and Glen were through to the final, but who would their opponents be, well, in the other half of the draw the Bourke team of Craig Grimes, Justin Bartlett and Dale Barker were quietly going about dismantling one team after the other starting with a comprehensive 30/10 win over the Coonabarabran team.
Just nudging out Richard Clarke’s Dubbo City team in the quarter finals before putting on a polished display to dismiss the Tim Wilkinson’s Dubbo Railway Side in their semi-final confrontation and advance to the final.
So at 2.30pm Sunday afternoon this final commenced in great anticipation by the window tappers who had certainly got their monies worth to date, and an encore was on the cards and that’s exactly what happened.
Both sides had opportunities to make a score, but didn’t, so it went for ten or a dozen ends till Bourke picked up that telling multi, a six shot haul that saw the score board balloon out to a handy 15/06.
Despite the Narromine boys getting a few results go their way, this margin prevailed to the end, with the Bourke boys four in front with one end to play, and despite having a chance with his last bowl to pick up the necessary shots to take the match into extra ends, Glens last bowl was just a smidgen wide of the target and Bourke were home.
My personal thanks to Geoff Anderson for his studious umpiring over the weekend and also to all those that pitched in and help “Buttsy” changing the rinks over or putting away the Matts and Jacks and other sundry items. So another successful weekend, and the good news?
We do it all again this weekend with the Bourke Bowling Club paying us a visit for a pennant trial on Saturday afternoon and a little run again Sunday morning.
The selectors have picked the pennant teams for the Saturday afternoon pennant trial which will commence at 2pm and our teams are as follows:
Team 01: Trent Jacobson, Adam Jermyn, Eddie McPhee, Glen Miller,
Team 02: Aaron Clark, Mark Hilder, John Edwards, Aaron Hutchison
Team 03: Arnold Gillespie, Bruce Maher, Don Sullivan, Terry McDonald
Team 04: Ross Edden, Peter Cross, Steve Riley, Kevin Rider
Team 05: Danny Carnevale, Steve Buttsworth, Peter Payne, James Daley
Team 06: To Be Advised – if Required
On Sunday we will be having another hit out of sorts and all Narromine Players are invited to place their Name down on the Nomination sheet that has been up for a few weeks now on the Club Notice board regarding this visitation.
With the Pennant season due to kick off the first weekend in March, it is hoped that all selected players and reserves will be on the green in some capacity during this period leading up to pennants.
Hopefully the consistency singles being one such event that would help keep the arm rolling over and so to that effect the Nom’s for this event have been extended till this Saturday and where possible these matches will be slotted in during the pennant season.
Social bowls this week saw just eight players line up Thursday. Sunday’s chook run was just a roll up for those keen enough, with the Zone Triples also on the agenda.
Thursday saw Des Lincoln and Aaron Clark declared the days winners after a comfortable 18/10 win over Noel and Ross, whilst in the other pairs confrontation it was Jeff Schloefell and Danny Carnevale who prevailed 16/11 over Clifton and Terry.
The Narromine Ladies start their season on March 6. It would be great if they can kick off the year with some good numbers, so Ladies over to you? Well that’s it for me for another week, hope to catch up with you sometime up at the “BOWLY”
Racing
During a bonanza day for Nyngan trainer Rodney Robb and jockey Maddison Wright, the tough four year old mare Lulu’s Destiny was a dominant winner of the Fabstock and Wallace Bulk Haulage Bedgerabong Picnic Cup (1400 metres) on Saturday.
One of four winners for Robb and Wright at the Bedgerabong meeting, Lulu’s Destiny, owned by Rodney Robb, and David Ringland from Dubbo, the much travelled Lulu’s Destiny won three races at tracks in the far north of Western Australia last campaign before resuming from a spell with a win at Parkes.
Racing before a big crowd at Bedgerabong, Lulu’s Destiny ($3.40) took the early lead and in the straight shot away to win by nearly five lengths from Spinning Dawn (Ricky Blewitt, $2.50 favourite) and Cyclone Andy (Wesley Boyd, $7).
Last year Security Code trained by Rodney Robb and ridden by Maddison Wright won both the Bedgerabong Picnic Cup and the inaugural $50.000 Picnic Championship Final at Dubbo and Lulu’s Destiny could repeat that feat in 2018.
Attention now turns to the big Condobolin Picnic meeting on Saturday, and Mudgee on Sunday featuring the $150,000 Central Districts Qualifier for the Country Championship.
