Saturday, March 10 the Narromine Jets landed at Cale Oval for a different reason than they normally would. The Jets banded together and held a working bee to give Cale Oval a makeover. “We wanted to show our pride in our home ground by giving it a bit of a spruce up, and further increase our team work that we have been developing through pre-season training,” first grade captain/coach Wes Middleton said.

Working in conjunction with council, rotten boards were replaced and the entire grandstand was given a fresh coat of paint. The dressing sheds and toilet facilities all got a good clean and scrub as well as a general tidy up around the whole oval. The working bee was a really family day with players bringing their families along and the kids getting involved with the litter collection. “Council do a great job looking after our shire’s sporting facilities and it was great to be able to work with them on this project” Jets President Archie Harding said.
Bowls
Another great weekend of pennants for our troops with the Grade 3 boys wining their road trip match against Nyngan on Saturday, whilst the Grade 5 squad put themselves back in their section with a solid win at home over the previously undefeated pakes town outfit. Round 4 this weekend will see both sides unchanged and with a need to maintain the rage all players should be on the green as often as possible, as one slip and that ladder wont be so rosie.
Social Bowls: Thursday winners were Robert Bateman, Cliff Harris and Terry McDonald, with the runners up spot going to Kerry Martin and Peter Cross. Sunday morning’s chook run saw Bob Ashdown and Bil Wilkie clean up, not only wining the prize pool as the day’s best performed team but picking up the jackpot pool as well. The consistency singles is down to the last six, but getting these three matches played over the next few weeks will require players support and some free time.
On Sunday Eddie McPhee will line up against Aaron Clark, while hopefully some time during the week we will be able to play the Glenn Miĺer versus Ross Edden game. Nominations for A-grade pairs, are now being called for, so players need to get organised.

Gerries’ Golf
Wins to Gainsford and Masling: Last Saturday 22 players turned up for the weekly Gerries golf competition played at Royal Narromine in almost perfect conditions There were eight ladies in their competition and Vicki Gainsford was the runaway winner with 21 Stableford points. Well played Vicki. Competition was very competitive for the runner up prize where Ann Harmer and Wendy Jeffery tied on 17 points with Harmer taking the prize on the countback system. There was no winner in the NTP competition which jackpots to next week.
14 men participated in the men's competition and here we had another runaway winner in Brian Masling. Maso shot a fine round of 30 stableford points which gave him victory by six points over Mal Fraser on 24 points. Wonderful golf Maso but you know the handicapper will get you after this round. There was no winner in the men's NTP which will also jackpot to next week. The NAGA prize is now run over the field due to the number of players and this week it went to Bob Culhane who pipped Dale Harding at the post for the prize.
In the pool comp there was only one game this week played between Bob Fletcher and Chris Harding against Terry Willis and Norm Lewis. Lewis was sent in to bat after a dubious toss of the coin and he sank the first ball only it was the white which did not count. Pom then took over and sank five balls in a row and it appeared the opponents had no chance at all. It was then that the brilliant Willis cleaned up the mess left by Pom and the underdogs were crowned champs for the week. Saturday, March 24 is the last day of the summer competition with the Ladies on the back nine and the men on the front and the hit-off at 9am.The Ladies will start their winter comp on Wednesday morning and the men will play their winter comp on Wednesday afternoon March 28, with the hit-off at 4am.

The annual Norm Newman Memorial Shield was played at Cale Oval on Saturday between Jets reserve grade and the Trangie Magpies. Norm was a long-time member of both the Narromine and Trangie clubs as both a player and supporter, and was one of the most genuine people you would have ever met. The game was played with a lot of heart and soul. Trangie were the victorious team this year, taking home the shield, winning the game 22 points to four. Trial matches were also played on the day.
