Another Pennant season has come to a slightly disappointing end, with our Grade 5 Team Bundled out of this state event last Sunday by Parkes Town: The boys just didn’t have their “Mojo” and found the going tough all day.

In the end it was Parkes winning 9/1 and with Canowindra getting a favourable result in their fixture, it is they who will move forward to the Zone Playoffs at Grenfell and we wish them all the best.
However it was not all gloom and doom for the lads in the Red Trousers as our Grade 3 team will be also involved in the Zone Playoffs, having annexed their section of the zone competition a few weeks ago.
Their Match on Saturday against Nyngan was an interesting affair to say the least and if you were only looking at the final scoreboard result of 75/60 and wins on each rink you could assume it was just a walk in the park, but I can assure readers that wasn’t the case.
The Nyngan Team lead for the first 47 ends and even at 58 ends there was only a few shots in it, but a “light bulb” moment from Aaron Hutchison on end 21 saw his rink go from three behind to two up and a rink win that was not expected.
Robert French was also trailing for the majority of his match against young Tim Walsh and at 17/21 after 17 ends the end result of 29/22 in Narromine’s favour was perhaps an indication of the see saw nature this game was played in.
Our third rink with Robbie Stanford leading his troops to a comfortable win despite having to make some positional changes, so all in all a good result.
This Squad now move forward to the Zone playoffs at Mudgee on Saturday, May 5 May and we wish them good hinting. The Consistency singles championships which have had a chequered path to date, might be back on track starting this coming weekend with a couple of matches programmed that should see this event out to the finals Status.
So on Saturday at 1.30pm Glen Miller will Play Ross Edden with the winner advancing to a Sunday morning confrontation against Phil Harding, hopefully by the end of the weekend we will be able to program the events for the following weekend which will include the final of the consistency singles along with a few matches in the A Pairs.
Speaking of the A Pairs championships, noms for this event close this Saturday, with First round and Mirrored Round 2 Byes set to kick off on Saturday, April 28.
So if you haven’t entered yet in this event “NOW” would be a good time to get organised, hate to see you miss out:
Social bowls this week saw Des Lincoln, Bob Davis and Eddie McPhee atop the podium on Thursday, whilst David Frail and that enigmatic Skipper Mark Smith easily accounted for their opponents in Sunday mornings Chook run and thus claim all the Chocolates on offer.
Not much more to report this week, but it is nice weather to be playing so why aren’t you having a roll up at the “Bowly”?, hope to see you there during the week

GERRIES GOLF NOTES
Bourke cleans up
Last Saturday, there were 14 players in the weekly Gerries golf competition played on the the Narromine Golf Course.
On this occasion, well known and popular member Bill Bourke, showed all the much younger players a clean a pair of heels to record a fine round of 27 stableford points and win the event comfortably.
Runner up on the day was Ross King with 24 and he had to defeat Bob Culhane,Gus Smith and Ron Green on a count-back. In winning second place King will incur the wrath of the handicapper and all other 24 pointers will escape the chop.
Good to see Culhane playing better this week, losing his NAGA title to Bob Richardson. In all a pretty good afternoon of golf in pleasant conditions.
Attention turned to the Pool table where Bill Bourke and Mal Richardson teamed up against Terry Willis and Bob Fletcher.
There was no double for "Bourkey" unfortunately as the black ball went down early leaving Willis and Fletcher to play Ross King and Gus Smith in the final.
King and Smith were eager to show their superiority and went on to defeat he old blokes (Willis and Fletcher) and become the weekly champs. This afternoon the competition will be played on the back nine with the hit off at 3pm.See you all on the tee.
Racing
Saturday was special for the Jeffries family from Parkes with trainer Sharon Jeffries and her stable foreman husband Dale Jeffries winning three races at Grenfell Picnics including the Cup with Rehanaat while further south their daughter, jockey Tiffany Jeffries, won the Holbrook Cup on Tableaux for Wangaratta trainer Russell Green.
Making a come back, the talented former professional jockey William Pearson was aboard the Jeffries winning trio at Grenfell and before a record crowd gave classy exhibitions. Rehanaat ( $3.40) was given a charmed run by William Pearson behind the leaders in the Doug Allen Memorial Grenfell Picnic Cup (1400 metres ) and took control in the straight to win by two lengths from Sergeant Bilko ( Ricky Blewitt, $5.50 ) and Dream On Stan ( Shannon Fogg, $5 ).
Shannon Fogg completed winning double when the Kylie Kennedy, Narromine trained Long Lasting ( $5 ) from near last rushed down the outside to defeat Layo Layo ( William Pearson, $2.50 fav.) and Raheen Lady ( Michael Wade, $4.60 ) in the 1000 metres ) Railway Hotel Handicap.
