The 56-year-old female driver was trapped in her white Kia Cerato for some time after a b-double truck reportedly failed to see her travelling along the highway.
The woman received serious injuries and was transported to Dubbo Base Hospital for treatment.
The 49-year-old male truck driver was taken to hospital for mandatory testing. Alcohol was not a factor.
Orana Mid-Western Police District Inspector Dan Skelly said the investigation is still underway.
“We appeal to all drivers to take care on the roads, especially considering there was eight killed in Victoria over the weekend.
“We need to take responsibility for our driving, to not take risks, slow down, don’t drive tired, wear your seat belt and don’t take risks.”
