Gorillas
The Narromine Gorillas romped to their ninth straight victory this season, dismantling the Dubbo Rhinos 38-10 at Cale Oval. The Rhinos opened the scoring through English import Ryan Sumner, before the Gorillas hit back when fullback Doug Potter was able to skirt around the Rhinos left edge. Charlie Tuck continued his try scoring feats, finding a yawning gap alongside the ruck to race ten metres untouched to score next to the posts. Potters conversion had the Gorillas in the 12-7 ahead.

The Rhinos then turned territory into points by kicking a penalty goal and narrowed the lead. However, the Gorillas were to have to final say of the first half when Mick Harris crashed over off a short ball from Jono Sharkey and the home side went to break at 19-10.
It was to be all the Gorillas in the second half running in another 19 unanswered points as the Rhino structure and discipline started to deteriorate. At one point, the visitors were reduced to 12 players after 3 yellow cards were awarded in quick succession for foul play and repeated infringements.
The Gorillas maul was strong again, with Tuck picking up his second try from the back of a rolling maul, before turning provider, putting winger Dylan Ryan away in the corner to score.
Harris then ensured he stayed in touch with Tuck on the try scorer’s table picking up his double after crashing over from the back of a 5m scrum in an incident that saw a nasty headclash between Rhinos Eddie Gusuivalu and Jovilisi Tawake. Both players requiring lengthy treatment for sizeable gashes to their foreheads.
Sam Mcleod was colossal for the hosts, rediscovering some of his best form against his old club, and Bill Rybak was busy as always with some telling defence. Flyhalf George Hancock dictated terms yet again, with great support from the weekends centre pairing of Tim Allworth and Tim Gainsford.
Narromine Gorillas 38 (Charlie Tuck 2, Mick Harris 2, Doug Potter, Dylan Ryan Tries; Potter 4 Conv) defeated Dubbo Rhinos 10 (Ryan Sumner Try; Conv; Pen). Second grade got back in the winner’s circle after their last start loss, with a hard fought 25-10 victory.
Starting at Flyhalf, Dwayne Anderson showed his class with some great passing, and centre Anthony Barling was strong all day. Liam Gleeson is revelling in his leadership role with a best on ground performance, supported well by the “Pioneer pin-up boy” Jack Neill.
Saturday was also the annual Ladies Day, with a large crown on hand in the ladies tent where the champagne was flowing. The Graziers Table put on a super impressive spread and over $1000 was raised for the McGrath Foundation thanks to the generous donations from many local businesses. A huge thanks must go out to the ladies day committee of Amy Quigley, Charlotte and Tim Gainsord, Caitlin Groth, Michael Treseder and Angus Webb, as well as their army of helpers. The Gorillas are at home again this weekend against the students from CSU Bathurst.

Well despite the weather being “not nice” we managed to get 99 per cent of the A grade singles Championship matches played this week. A huge thank you to those Markers who also braved the weather, your help is greatly appreciated, with a special mention to Ben “Beaver” Clark who backed up on Sunday for a second helping, tar!!!
We played the final of the B grade singles last Saturday and congratulations to Sam Crook on his win over Joey Mikulic. Kevin did a fine job as usual Marking this final.
In the A grade singles those “still alive” after their win over the weekend include, Aaron Hutchison, Ross Edden, Eddie McPhee, Aaron Clark, Bruce Maher, James Daley, Kevin Rider, John Edwards, Steve Buttsworth, Arnold Gillespie, and Robert French.
So this week we have a game on Thursday between Dale McCafferty and Trent Jacobson, with the winner backing up and playing Arnold Gillespie on Saturday.
Saturday sees Bruce Maher take on Kevin Rider, John Edwards and Steve Buttsworth feature in game two. In game three will pit Danny Carnevale and Ben Clark against each other. Game four Ross Edden and Aaron Hutchison are set to clash. The final match up rounding out the Round 2 fixtures will feature James Daley up against Robert French. Hopefully Sunday will see all Saturday winners’ backing up, but if that doesn’t happen then Round 3 will be finalised the next weekend.
Zone Singles will kick off on Saturday, June 30 and at present a number of Narromine personnel are contesting the various divisions of this event. This event takes precedence over Club Championships, dependent upon results some of the scheduled singles matches for this weekend will have to be delayed, but again with player co-operation we may still get some of these matches played beforehand or during the week, time will tell.
Social Bowls this week was restricted to just Thursday. The results courtesy of our “NEW” monthly Sponsor Coles Supermarket the winners of the day got the COLES vouchers. The lucky recipients of the COLES vouchers were Keith McDonald, Geoff Anderson and David McNair who scored some 16 points along the way to a 21/12 win over Richard, Bob and Don. The runners up cheque went to Rick Bohm, Dale McCafferty and Terry McDonald who managed to scrounge up 15 points in their hard earned 21/17 win over Noel, Kevin and Eddie. The other winning rink of Des Lincoln, Clifton Harris and Steve Buttsworth.

Gerries Golf
Last Wednesday saw a good field of 13 Gerrie golfers for the weekly nine hole competition played on the back nine of Royal Narromine in somewhat cool and breezy conditions. The playing conditions were obviously in favour of Greg Kearines, who played a great round of 25 Stableford points to take the days competition. Runner up was Bruce Mitchell with 23 points.
Mitchell had a firm hold on the NTP trophy until Chris Harding came along with a great shot to take the two golf balls on offer for the event. Unfortunately insufficient players for a NAGA trophy this week. Moving on to the pool competition where the competition was of the usual high standard. The first match was between Gus Smith and Greg Kearines against Bob Fletcher and Terry Willis.
Once again Willis and Fletcher won and went on to meet Chris Harding and Bill Burke in the final. A couple of weeks ago the combination of Burke and Harding were rated the " the best pool players ever" and this week they lived up to the hype by winning the title again. This afternoon the competition is on the front nine with the hit off at 2.30pm. See you all on the tee.
Veteran’s Golf
On Saturday, June 9, the Narromine Veteran golfers played their monthly nine hole competition. Unfortunately it rained lightly all day and reduced the field to only five players. No doubt the rain will help the course which badly needed some moisture.
Only five players participated in the event which was won by Ashley Bullock with a score of nett 32. Runner up was Narromine Open Champion Rob Williams with nett 35 1/2 .Williams also won the NTP competition.
Congratulations must go to Ron Green and Mal McIntyre who were runners up in the Western District Four Ball championships played at Warren on May 31. They also won the B grade event on the same day. The next monthly event will be a stroke event on the front nine on Saturday, July 7. Veteran Open tournaments are Thursday, June 28 Nyngan and Thursday, July 19 Trangie.
