Dubbo Regional City Council Mayor Ben Shields said he was happy with the announcement of the new service.
“It just goes to show how fast this airport is growing … Now we’re well into 200,000 passengers, it shows how strong this airport is and how strong aviation is for Western NSW, having this new airline with service routes to Brisbane and Melbourne is certainly a positive for the city of Dubbo,” Cr Shields said.
The agreement for a new airline service to take over the route was negotiated between council and Fly Corporate in the past few weeks. .
“We’re talking to everyone who is interested in this airport, so we can continue to expand in this airport and make a better service for the residents of Dubbo … we’re always open to negotiations with anyone” Cr said.
When asked what safeguards council had in place to prevent a jet go situation happening in the future, Cr Shields said they were ‘running the airport as a business’.
“Again it’s a commercial reality of what contract we enter into, anyone’s got the option of trading at this airport as a business entity,” Cr Shields said.
Fly Corporate already operates direct flights to Brisbane from Tamworth and Orange. The aircraft servicing the Dubbo route will be a Saab 340B Plus seating 34 passengers.
“Fly Corporate is a very well known organisation in Central West and also has been around for 46 years, we’re very proud that we operate this service,” Fly Corporate sales manager Geoff Woodham said.
“Fly corporate are here to support the market and will continue to do so,” he said.
“We are something very very different, it is about good old fashioned customer service. It is very rare we receive negative feedback its always positive. He said in the past Fly corporate’s safety record had been “outstanding”.
“Our policy is that we operate every service, obviously you’ll have weather delays and disruptions, but our policy is to do that. For the last 2.5 years we’ve operated services right across the Central West into Queensland and beyond. That’s our motto, not only that customers get good quality service but also get to their end destination.
