Mr Grant made the announcement last Thursday morning, and followed it with an emotionally charged media conference in Dubbo on Friday, saying running again was not the right decision for himself nor his family.
Cr Davies said he has “no doubt” that this decision will make for an interesting election.
“I can understand why Troy wants to step down. He’s been in this situation now since 2011, it will be eight years he’s put into this electorate,” Cr Davies said.

“Given the amount of time that these guys are away from their families it is a big ask for anyone.”
“I am sorry to see Troy go, but life goes on and certainly people in the Narromine shire wish him well.”
Without an incumbent to contest the seat, Cr Davies said Mr Grant’s decision would make the election tighter given the popularity of independent candidate Matthew Dickerson.
“The independent Matthew Dickerson is by all standards a very good candidate, he’s well known and highly regarded, particularly in Dubbo. The National party is certainly going to have to be at their best to ensure they are going to retain the seat,” he said.

Cr Davies went on to praise Mr Grant for his tireless work he has put into the Narromine shire over the years.
“Troy has done many things for our shire, one of the most notable being his help to secure nearly $700,000 for the Alan Burns Oval in Trangie.
“There’s been many other instances where his involvement has been instrumental in the development of our shire and ensuring that it can keep pace with other shires.
“Troy’s enthusiasm and dedication to the job has been exemplary and certainly his boots will be hard to fill.”
Mr Grant was elected to the seat of Dubbo at the 2011 election, in the media announcement he cited changes in the political landscape among the reasons he chose to end his political career.
