As a result of winning the Major Singles Crown for 2018, Aaron will now contest the Champion of Champions event at West Dubbo next weekend and we wish him all the Best.
Our current Pairs Champions Eddie McPhee and Terry McDonald contested the Champion of Champions Pairs event in Trangie Last weekend but unfortunately were defeated albeit by the barest of margins by the eventual winners of this section Saturday morning.
The boys jumped out of the blocks to lead 10/00 after just four ends, but couldn’t maintain the “rage” and old number 13 wasn’t kind to them either, getting stuck on “it” for six straight ends that proved a telling blow as well.
The Nomination sheet for the annual “GUB THORNE DAY” has been posted on the notice board this week and already has some nine teams entered for this always popular event.
So if tour a mind to play in this event on Saturday 11th August, best you get your Triples team in to avoid missing out.
The nomination sheet for the “B” Pairs will be posted on the notice board later this week and it is our intention to start this event on Saturday, August 18, so again I wouldn’t dally with getting your name down for this event either.
Social bowls this week saw some 20 players enjoy the sunshine on Thursday with “RABZ” and “The Goose” declared the day’s winning team courtesy of a strong 27/09 win over Des and Jeff.
“The Goose” AKA Bruce Maher along with a few others who were able to play due to the School Holidays certainly swelled the Numbers and hopefully with fine weather this Thursday we again should have a good field. Of course the added incentive of the “COLES” vouchers might also help the cause, here’s hoping.
The Sunday Morning chook run saw just ten line up in frosty conditions with Bob Davis and Bill Wilkie atop the podium at days end albeit on a count-back, from Colleen Heatrick, Bob Ashdown and Ian McNair, who also won their match by just a couple of shots.
Not much more to report, but just a reminder to those members who haven’t paid their “dues” for 2019, you cannot play in the upcoming championships and or win the Badge Draw unless you are a financial member. Till next week, happy rolling.

Gerries Golf
Win for Green
Last Wednesday some 13 players took part in the weekly Gerries golf competition on the Narromine course. Once again the scores were really good due to the fact the course is badly in need of a shower of rain and there is plenty of run.
Winner on the day was the consistent Ron Green with a score of 25 stableford points. Runner - up after handicap variations were explained was Malcolm Fraser on 24 points.Bob Culhane almost collected the NTP prize only to see Ron Green get inside Bob's ball on the tenth hole. There was no NAGA prize again this week.It was a pleasant afternoon for golf and enjoyed by all who played.
On now to the Pool Table where Bob Fletcher and Chris Harding teamed to play Charlie Burrowes and Norm Lewis.Fletch and Pom advanced to the final with a convincing win.
In the final they met raging favorites Gus Smith and Terry Willis and it really was't much of a game when Bob Fletcher played an excellent game to help him and his partner Chris Harding to a sound victory and the title of "Champs for the week"
There was an impromptu meeting and Gus Smith was elected 2 IC and thanked for his effort in handling all the queries that occur after each weeks game. The after golf snacks were enjoyed by all. Veteran Golfers are reminded Trangie Vets Open is on to-morrow.For catering purposes please let Norm or Ashley know so they can advise Trangie.
There is also a reminder to all Geriatric golfers that our sponsored golf day is on on Saturday, July 21 and there are some great trophies to be won.
The event is a 4BBB Stableford with competitions for Ladies, Men and Mixed teams. This afternoon, the weekly competition is on the front nine with a hit off at 2.30pm.See you all on the tee.

Racing
The rider hit the ground fifty metres past the winning post but not before apprentice jockey Akira Kijaya had scored a remarkable win on It’s Business Time in the opening race on Saturday at the Cowra TAB meeting.
Soon after the start of the Cowra Rotary Club Benchmark 50 Handicap ( 1100 metres ) the feet of Kajiya slipped from the irons and thereafter it was a hair-raising ride for the jockey, formerly from Japan.
Sitting bolt upright and bobbing up and down in the saddle, Kajiya managed to steer It’s Business Time ( $2.50 favourite ) around the hometown and down the outside fence to win by a half neck from Kingston ( Ken Dunbar, $6.50 ) and Benno’s Boy ( Kath Bell-Pitomac, $5 ).
Tumbling off It’s Business Time after crossing the line, Kajiya escaped serious injury but was advised to relinquish his later rides at the meeting.
Now aged 36, Akira Kajiya gave away race riding for many years before recently resuming an apprenticeship with Canberra trainer Matthew Dale.
Replays of the incredible win have gone worldwide on social media. It’s Business Time is trained at Yass by Allan McRae who was reared on a property at Tottenham in central New South Wales.
Bill Molloy, a former local trainer, remembers an incident when Campaign trained at Orange by Dick Van Den Bos,after winning a race at Cowra jumped the outside fence.
Billy Owen, a former leading jockey on the Picnic circuit, has been achieving plenty of success in the professional ranks since recently taking up an apprenticeship with Canberra trainer Nick Olive.
Witt classy rides,Owen landed a winning double, Chasing Waterfalls and Fraternater at Cowra on Saturday with both being trained at Canberra by Neil Osborne.
From a wide barrier Chasing Waterfalls ( $2.60 favourite ) obtained a handy position and was a one length winner over Seishin ( Jamie Gibbons, $9.50 ) and Louisiana Belle ( Simon Miller, $4 ) in the Jamieson’s Joinery Maiden Plate,1200 metres.
Fraternater ( $2.20 favourite ) settled at the tail of the field and when cut loose by Billy Owen powered home to win the Cowra Community Chest Class 2 Handicap ( 1375 metres ) from Cafe Terrace ( Ashleigh Stanley,$4.20 ) and Amare ( Tony Cavallo, $14 ). Racing at Dubbo ( TAB ) on Friday and Carinda on Saturday.
