The NSW Nationals Dubbo Electorate Council met on Monday night to decide whether or not to extend the deadline for preselection, in light of MP Troy Grant’s decision to retire at the March 23 poll.
Prior to last week’s announcement, no one had nominated to challenge Mr Grant for preselection.
Nationals State Director Ross Cadell said the deadline would not be extended, due to the number of nominations already received.
“We’ve had a lot of interest in the last week, a lot of quality interest,” Mr Cadell said.
“We’re still interested in hearing from people. We want a competitive field because we think it’s a pretty great privilege to be able represent your area and look after the people of Dubbo and surrounds.”
Anyone interested in nominating is urged to start filling out the form “sooner rather than later”. Nominations are due by Saturday, July 21, with preselection to be held on August 18.
