Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Deputy Commissioner Jim Hamilton AFSM was at Narromine Fire Station Monday evening to discuss why with local firefighters from Narromine and Trangie, and present two retained firefighters their long service medals.
The use of the + to replace ‘and’ in the Fire and Rescue NSW title is to represent the sum of things that the fire service does for the community, which is more than fight fires.
The FRNSW ‘Plus Plan’ is the new service delivery model which encompasses everything FRNSW provides to the community, which strives to ‘protect the irreplaceable’.
Narromine Fire Station Commander Captain Ewen Jones welcomed the visit and discussed the ways their training and equipment prepare the team to protect the community.
"Our training and equipment is more than just putting out fires," Captain Jones said.
FRNSW not only respond to calls involving hazardous materials, rescue incidents, medical assistance, and fires, but also assist with counter terrorism pre-planning, disaster and humanitarian relief, and strives to protect the environment.
“FRNSW are prepared for anything, and we aim to protect the irreplaceable, working along side our people [FRNSW staff], the community, government and industry," Captain Jones said.
During the visit Deputy Commissioner Hamilton also made two presentations to Narromine retained firefighters (RFF).
RFF Jason Poulson received his 10-year Service and Good Conduct Medal, recognising 10 years of service to FRNSW.
Deputy Captain Peter Treseder received his second clasp for his 10-year Service and Good Conduct Medal, recognising 30 years of service to FRNSW.

"It was a great honour to have Deputy Commissioner Hamilton, and Zone Commander Gary Barber attend Narromine Fire Station to provide an opportunity to be able to ask questions, receive answers and explanations from such a highly respected and experienced Senior FRNSW Officer,” Captain Jones said.
“The rare opportunity to be presented with medals and clasps from a Deputy Commissioner was terrific as well," he said.
