With the amount of works planned for the Newell Highway, the alliance program will include the installation of variable message signs to provide information on the expected travel times along the Newell Highway.
Newell Highway Task Force chairman councillor Ken Keith OAM said he was pleased 30 additional overtaking lanes will be constructed along with the roll out of additional audio tactile centreline separation of traffic lanes.
The overtaking lanes are on top of the more than 17 overtaking lanes that have been completed and other works including the new Dubbo bridge, Parkes bypass and improvements through Coonabarabran that are all in the planning stages.
The Newell Highway Task Force welcomed the NSW Governments further drought support, with the announcement of improved access for heavy vehicles carrying supplies and stock to drought-affected areas.
The new NSW Class 3 Drought Assistance Dimension Exemption Notice, which came into effect on August 15, will mean more hay can be transported per truckload, reducing costs for farmers.
