Ann-Louise Stonestreet from Communities for Children said a number of people and services from the community attend and provide activities that coincide with the beginning letter they are representing.
“For example G is for germs from Health NSW,” Ms Stonestreet said.
“Health NSW will spend five minutes with a group of about six kids before they move onto the next letter, teaching them about germs, providing information for their give-away bags and teaching kids how to wash their hands properly,” she said.
Ms Stonestreet said it was an interactive fun way to learn the alphabet while meeting new friends.
“It is a great way to bring the community together while the kids learn,” Ms Stonestreet said.
“Each service really enjoys their time with the kiddies and it is a highlight for the kids,” she said.
Older students from Narromine Christian School mentor the little ones by helping groups go around the alphabet or be at a letter helping the service.
“Over 150 children attended last year and it looks to be another fun filled day with Royal Flying Doctors attending with their plane trailer as well as local services who are amazing at giving so much to the community,” Ms Stonestreet said.
The Alphabet Fun Day is free and while it is aimed at preschool and younger primary children, parents and carers are welcome to come along.
