The German-made BD Rowa Vmax is linked to dispensing software at the front so when a prescription is scanned, the machine finds the medication and delivers it to the pharmacist.
Narromine pharmacist and managing partner Felicity Roberts said the new machine not only eliminates human error, but allows employees to spend more time interacting with customers than working at the back of the store.

“It was made in Germany and sent out and assembled here on site. Inside the machine is a robot that will select the drugs that we need, packs everything away and is self cleaning,” Ms Roberts said.
“It has increased the ability of the team to use their knowledge, and provide better customer service and assistance to our patients. It’s not taking away jobs, what it’s doing is giving us more time to be out on the shop floor with the customer,” she said.
The Rowa machine is one of few scattered around Australia, and Mrs Roberts said installing the machine in Narromine has boosted staff morale, where staff no longer need to stand around for hours unpacking boxes.
Currently the Pharmacy are hosting a competition to name the robot. “People are putting in suggestions, and we’re not sure if it’s male or female yet,” Mrs Roberts said.
