To kick-start the school holidays kids were treated to a painting workshop with Trangie’s award winning and international selling artist David Dunn at the Wungunja Cultural Centre last Wednesday.

The youth event, sponsored by Communities for Children Narromine, Trangie Local Aboriginal Land Council and the Trangie Challenge group, saw over 50 adults and children gather at the centre to learn some new artwork skills and share in a barbeque together.
Trangie Local Aboriginal Land Council CEO Terrie Milgate said it was a successful day with children from Nevertire, Tamworth, Laurieton, Narromine and Trangie coming along to take part in the event.
“It was good to see community members visit the Wungunja Cultural Centre during the event, especially the visit from the Narromine Shire Council Mayor Craig Davies, Development Officer Phil Johnston as well as Troy Grant and Dougall Saunders,” Ms Milgate said.

“The children had a fabulous time and everyone went home with a wonderful piece of art.”
Ms Milgate said it was fantastic to have Trangie local Mr Dunn in town to host the workshop with the children, and had all kids captivated with his lessons.
Mr Dunn is a Wiradjuri man that is very passionate about culture, teaching art and mentoring children about the art skills he has learnt and the knowledge he has on Aboriginal culture.
“David’s teaching method with the children was brilliant, where he had them totally captivated in what they were doing,” Ms Milgate said.
“He loves coming back to Trangie to share his skills and hopes that the local people and visitors to Trangie support the Wungunja Cultural Centre, take a look at the great collections held there and the work that has been done there, all contributed by staff, locals and members of the Trangie LALC,” she said.
Ms Milgate said the Wungunja Cultural Centre Centre is open from 10am until 3pm everyday with a lunch break during the week days.
“If you haven’t already been to the Centre make the time to come and have a look it is well worth the trip.”
