To help spread an awareness and raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and reach their goal of zero deaths by 2030 Ms Lewis is hanging out her bras, and encouraging others to do the same.
“I’ve asked all ladies to bring in old bras to hang out the front so that makes people go, ‘what are they for?’ and they can come in and we can explain it,” Ms Lewis said.
“I did it last year as well for a really good friend of mine who had breast cancer and sadly she lost her battle this year.”
“So this year I’ve decided to go bigger and better and raise as much money and awareness as possible,” she said.
On Friday, October 19 from 9am until 5pm Sassy Styles along with Michelle Hill, owner of the Whisk Away vintage van are hosing a Pink Day at the salon to to raise awareness and funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Ms Lewis said the Whisk Away van will be serving up pink treats with $5 from every mixed cup cake box going to the Foundation. Ms Lewis will also have pink hairspray, a permanent pink hair dye, and will also have pink glitter braids with all money going straight to the foundation.
Not only is Friday the day to raise money, throughout the month of October Ms Lewis is donating $5 from every client appointment and will be using pink foils.
“Through the whole month of October I’m donating $5 from every client that has an appointment,” Ms Lewis said.
“The company that I’ve gone through is Foilme foils, so they make a pink foil for breast cancer and they donate $1 from every box sold,” she said.
Ms Lewis has also organised a hair care package raffle, tickets are $5 with 100 per cent of the proceeds going straight into the donation box located at the salon.
“Anything like that, so the pink hairspray, the pink glitter braids whatever I charge for that will go straight toward the donation box,” Ms Lewis said.
Ms Lewis will also have a ‘Selfie Wall’ in the salon so people can take their photos and use the breast cancer hashtags to help spread the awareness.
“The NBCF is trying to raise as much funds and awareness so they can reach zero deaths by 2030, they’ve got their own hashtag that #zeroby2030 and they’re just trying to get it out there,” Ms Lewis said.
After Friday’s event Ms Lewis along with her colleague Leah will be heading to Sydney to take part in the 24-hour breast cancer walk.
“If you have a breast you can get breast cancer. Jo was only 36 when she passed, it doesn’t really matter about being older,” Ms Lewis said.
Ms Lewis said she hasn’t counted the donation box yet but said it is getting heavier each day.
Ms Lewis is encouraging people to come along to the shop on Friday between 9am and 5pm and hang a bra out the front of the shop in the name of breast cancer.
