Last Saturday we had 31 starters in the First round of 4BBB Championships sponsored by Narromine Butchery. 

Budd Cape and Blake Richardson combined to have 49 points to win the day from Steve Ward and Greg Barling on 47 points  on a count back.

Third also on 47 points were Peter Gainsford and Craig Duff. NTPs ninth Steve Ward and tenth Steve Buckley.

Sunday was was the Second round of the 4BBB Championships also sponsored by Narromine Butchery with 30 players.

Alex Sambrook and Ryan Richardson had a very good afternoon after a slow start to have 52 points to win from Kale Bock and Adam Davis with 49 points.

Third were Steve Gillette and Josh Coen with 49 points on a count back. NTPs ninth Ryan Richardson and tenth Peter Gainsford. 

After the two rounds the Scratch Winners were Tony Mann and Rob Williams with 82 points from Jamie McKinnon and Tony Harding on 77 points.

In the Handicap the winners were Alex Sambrook and Ryan Richardson with 98 points from Kale Bock and Adam Davis with 96 points.

Last Tuesday Night we had 86 starters with the best team score coming from the Leftovers on 92 points.

Best individual scorers were Dave Paine25, Luke Hutchison 25, Kath Williams 25,Greg walsh 24, Luke Harding 24, Charlie Burrowes 23, Carol McDonald 23, Mal Richardson 22, Chris Harding 22, Jason McPherson 22 and Ben Coen 22.

Up coming events include Presentation Night 17th November with Royden also singing on the night and the AGM November 29.

Next weekend on Saturday we have a stroke event for the Monthly Medal Playoff sponsored by Rusty McKenzie and Ross King and on Sunday we have a 4BBB for the Darrol Handsaker Memorial day.

Two competitions last week

Last week the Narromine Gerries played two competitions one on Wednesday and the other on Saturday.

Wednesday was the final competition for the winter season and attracted a field of 18 players.

It was really a great afternoon for the final Wednesday of the year.

Winner on the day was Tiger Berryman with 26 points a very good round Tiger but he had to battle for the win as he had Greg Kearines also with 26 points.

The count-back went to Tiger.

The NTP  went to Ross King and only one ball in the kitty while Alan Kearines took out the NAGA prize with 13 points.

The player of renown was Dick Andrews in his first effort with the Club but no one asked him for tips on how to play the game.

There was a delightful spread on after the game for the final winter game and all went well until "Pom" ate all the Prawns.

Club members made presentation to Terry Willis, Ross King and Norm Lewis in appreciation of their help during the year.It was a fitting end to the winter season and appreciated by all.

The pool comp was then played with a certain amount of controversy.

Lack of space restricts great detail on the pool except to report the preliminary winners were Terry Willis and Dick Andrews to advance to the next round.

Chris Harding and Mal McIntyre won their match to advance.

In what everyone thought would be the final Dick and Terry defeated Pom and Mal but then from out of the blue a new pair of Bob Fletcher and Brian Masling to challenge Willis and Andrews for the title.

One wonders how this could happen when our organiser was presented with a lovely gift for his attention to detail over the year.

Maso known for his position as adjudicator, and his partner Fletcher proved no match for Andrews and Willis with Andrews showing he was a much better pool player than golfer.

Maybe he sneaks in some practice on the side.

The Gerries moved to Saturday for the start of the summer season where they were joined by the ladies.

Only a small field attended mainly due to the fact there as overnight rain.

Four Ladies played and the winner was Dale Harding on 17 points on a count back from Bev Woods also on 17. The Ladies NTP went to Viv Halbish.

In the mens event Bruce Mitchell led the field in with 22 points from Bob Fletcher on 21 points.

There were no  winners in the NTP or the NAGA this week.Ross Fraser had an interesting 17th hole which be parred after having an air-swing off the tee.

Well done Ross.

Next Saturday the ladies will play the back nine and the blokes will play the front with the hit off at the usual time of 9am. See you all on the tee.

Narromine Bowling Club hosted a very successful Triples tournament last weekend and the locals were to the fore in more ways than and.

Firstly on the Bowls side of things the overall Winners were the composite Side of Rick Jermyn (Nyngan) Adam Jermyn (Narromine) and Robbie Stanford (Narromine).

The boys defeated Jordon Thompson (Gulgong), Sam Crook (Narromine) and Aaron Clark (Narromine) in a three end final Sunday afternoon.

Third Place went to defeated semi-finalists, the Tottenham Lead team of Clayton Anderson, whilst John Edwards and his Crew defeated five other sides to Claim the Fourth Spot.

A personal thank you to all the “Troops” who helped ensure the smooth running of this event, particularly Robbie Stanford, Dale McCafferty and Peter Cross for the Outside stuff and to Ron and Bev Cape along with Joy Gillespie for the inside stuff.

Whilst we finished up with some 20 teams, which weren’t too bad, it was disappointing that no Team from Dubbo (just 40km down the road) could manage to enter a team.

To say the locals weren’t happy would be an understatement and I just wonder what sort of response I will get when I announce that one of these Dubbo Clubs are looking for extra teams when next they have an event on.

For the record we had visiting Players from Gulgong, Bourke, Singleton, Nyngan, Trangie and Tottenham.

Social bowls this week saw just the Thursday outing with some 20 players going round.

The new conditions of play on Thursday threw a spanner into the works as some of the “Rookies” weren’t aware of what play to the bell or 6.30pm really meant, however hopefully Rick’s narrative at presentations cleared things up.

A full wrap of the days play saw Richard Hyde, Des Lincoln and Steve Buttsworth garner some 14 points along the way to an 18/15 win over Racardo Stanford, Rick Bohm and Robbie Stanford out on rink 12.

The Duo of Bruce Maher and Dale McCafferty scored some 14 points also in their 23/12 win over Rabz Macqueen and Trent Jacobson played in Great Spirit on rink 09.

Neville Townsend and Terry McDonald had no joy in their clash with Kevin Heatrick and Aaron Clark, the latter team winning 16/12 courtesy of a handy pick up the last end.

In the other triples encounter it was Noel Delboux, Bob Davis and David McNair who managed to squeak out a 15/11 win over Clifton Harris, Bob Ashdown and Danny Carnevale.

After Ricks narrative we got down to presentations and the winners cheque went to the duo of Bruce Maher and Dale McCafferty.

The trio of Richard Hyde, Des Lincoln and Steve Buttsworth were afforded the runners up spot, whilst once again the jackpot wasn’t found.

The Club Challenge is the next big thing on the radar and all players who haven’t got the “NEW” shirt or Paid for one need to see Aaron Hutchison this week, so we can formalise the Squads.

The Draw for this event has been done and for the two Narromine Blue squads the good news is your matches on Saturday, November 17 will be at Home.

Our Gold squad have to travel to Parkes, whilst the Silver Lads have a trip to Dubbo City.

The draws have been posted on the Bowls NSW Website, and suffice to say it will not be easy to win one off these divisions, but I’m sure the Narromine boys are up for the fight.

The Lunn brothers Garry, Dar, Lee and Michael as trainers at Dubbo and other brothers Wayne “Bronco” Lunn and Shane Lunn who own many of the horses they train, have long been the family flag bearers in racing but there is now another player in the game, Karen Lunn.

Karen, the wife of Michael Lunn, trained her first winner, Olive Beauty at Condobolin, earlier this year and at Dubbo on Saturday before a massive crowd produced El Rey Dorado for a surprise win in the 1400 metres Royal Indian Restobar Maiden Plate.

A flashy chestnut with a white face and four white socks, El Rey Dorado was a conspicuous last before gaining ground along the rails from the 900 metres mark.

Ridden by Robbie Brewer, the $41 outsider El Rey Dorado with a stout finish down the centre of the track surged to the lead and beat the favourite Regal Cannon ( Mathew Cahill, $1.70 ) by over a length with Thunderzone ( Tony Cavallo,$9 ) running on well for third.Prior to Saturday, El Rey Dorado had only recorded one placing from 22 Starts.

Keeping the family name in the spotlight, Karen Lunn’s brother in laws, Garry Lunn and Dar Lunn won later races with Unresolved and Zoutenant, respectively.

Unresolved ( Wendy Peel, $16 ) raced fifth to the hometurn then took the lead and held on to beat the Michael Lunn trained Club Town ( Robbie Brewer, $4.40 ) by a half length with Cadeyrn ( Jeff Kehoe, $41 ) a close third in the S J Shooter Real Estate Class 1 and Maiden Plate Over 1600 metres.

Zoutenant has been a consistent performer for Dar Lunn this campaign and at the good odds of $11, with apprentice Wendy Peel in the saddle, wore down We Love Rugby ( Eleanor Webster-Hawes, $4 equal favourite ) to scrape home by a short head in the 1400 metres Central West McHappy Day Benchmark 66 Handicap.

Eight year old gelding Escebee, a $17 winner at Bathurst last week backed up to win the 1000 metres Club Dubbo Benchmark 66 Handicap for Gulgong trainer Mark Milton.

Escebee ( Qin Yong, $10 ) swooped on the leaders then lasted to beat Sons Of Bourke ( Andrew Banks,$3.10 ) by a short neck with Yeas And Nays (Ken Dunbar, $14 ) holding on for third.

Another last start winner to greet the judge first at Dubbo was the Connie Greig trained Malibu Stacy in the Dubbo City Toyota Benchmark 58 Handicap Over 1600 metres.

Malibu Stacy had finished strongly to win at Mudgee and at Dubbo starting at $6.50 and again with Adrian Robinson the jockey came from well back to beat George Two ( Greg Ryan, $13 ) and Living Choice ( Wendy Peel,$4 favourite ).

The Cotton Cup is the feature at Warren on Sunday with following meetings being Bathurst, Saturday November 17 and Dubbo, Tuesday, November 20.
