The Narromine Hospital Auxiliary have created a 2019 calendar not only to raise money for the Narromine Hospital, but to pay tribute to some of the legendary ‘stars’ who have served the community throughout.

Gwen Bourchier is the oldest participant, turning 98 in January 2019. She has worked tirelessly for Narromine during her life and is also the Patron of the Hospital Auxiliary, of which she has been a member for too many years to count.
Then comes Keith Hayden at 96. Keith together with his wife Jean (dec) is the builder of the Wright Flyer replica and Keith Powell, 92, who trained pilots in the legendary Tiger Moth and has restored Narromine’s Tiger Moth to flying status.
Mick Deep who is 91 also features in the calendar, as does Morrie Allen, retired area Superintendent of our electricity supply company.
You will see the faces of Bob and Norma Meadley, popular Health and Building Inspector (retired) and his wife, Norma our local resident historian, Ruth and Dick Carney who have long been dancing together and who train our young people in ballroom dancing.
Also featured are retired Dr Robert Kirkby and his wife Joy, a renowned potter, Bob Treseder who is about to hang up his boots when Treseders Hardware is taken over by its new owners in a few weeks, and his lovely wife Charmaine who is also an Auxiliary member.
Other participants in the calendar are Sue Dagg, 25 Club member and stalwart of Narromine Junior Soccer, Valmai Dollery retired Community Health worker and who has compiled and constructed the calendar together with her husband Don, Peter Kierath who has not only been the driving force behind the establishment of our own Aviation Museum but has also built Kierath’s Shopping Arcade and was the proprietor of Narromine’s largest department store for many years.
Des Lincoln a staunch member of the RSL as well as many other voluntary organisations in the town along with his wife Barbara, a volunteer with many charitable organisations in the town and who is also an Auxiliary member. Bob Walsh manager of Narromine USMC and his wife Robyn are also featured.
The Auxiliary recognise there are many more deserving local legends over the age of 70 that make Narromine a great place to live, and future calendars will pay homage to more each year.
The calendar will also provide helpful information of the services provided by Narromine Community Health, meeting dates of the Auxiliary, the Health Council and the Cancer Support Group.
The calendar has been made possible with a grant awarded to the Auxiliary for their annual Grandparents Day, featuring grandparents.
Roley McDonnell took the photographs at the Bowling Club, who are also very supportive of the project and made space available to be used for our ‘studio’. Everybody who was involved had a great deal of fun.
Don and Valmai Dollery lent their expertise to the construction and compiling of the calendars and they are still busy continuing to fill orders. Cr Lyn Jablonski did all the necessary photo-shopping with her usual flair and the end result is indeed spectacular.
The calendar was launched at the Rotary Markets on Sunday 28th October because that was the official date for Grandparents Day nationally and now they are on sale for only $10 each at Mudyigalang Craft Shop, Narromine USMC, Regional Australia Bank and Narromine Newsagency.
It is hoped that their sales will add handsomely to the funds already raised by the Hospital Auxiliary to pay for much needed items at the Narromine Hospital and Narromine Social Activity Centre at Community Health.
