Six Narromine Shire residents have joined more than 15,000 athletes from over 40 countries competing in the Pan Pacific Masters Games.

Mark and Margie Fenwick, Deb and Hugh Irving, Mark Boucher and Dave Quigley joined the Dubbo Outback Dragons in the Dragon Boating event held on Varsity Lakes at the Gold Coast last weekend.
On Friday, day one, the team paddled their way through the 500 metre race against a number of paddlers from across the world including Canada, Singapore and New Zealand.
In two different age classes the team took out two bronze medals in the in the 200 metre sprint on Saturday.

However it was on Sunday the team showed off their skills competing in the five kilometre race against 12 dragon boats, placing fourth with only a second’s difference.
Two of the teams youngest members were also in the a combined team placing second.
Crew member Chris Robinson said it was an “amazing” weekend to be part of competing against almost 850 international paddlers.
“It was amazing to go up there and be part of something so friendly and fun,” Ms Robinson said.
“The comradery and friendship is amazing.”
For Ms Robinson it was the support of the crowds which made the experience even more memorable competing against predominately coastal teams.
“A lot of the crowd go behind Dubbo as we were the only inland team.”
“They were cheering us on so … it was good to be part of,” she said.
The Pan Pacific Masters Games was first staged in 1998 and has grown to become the biggest biennial multi-sport masters games in Australia.
The Dubbo Dragon Boater’s train on the Maquarie River and are always welcoming new members to the club which caters for paddlers with a range of fitness and skill levels from beginners to experienced sports paddlers.
The group train on Tuesday and Thursday evening at 5.45pm down at the Sandy beach.
“We’re always looking for more people to join us for some fun and fitness on the water,” Ms Robinson said.
